An Armor Piercing round that hits a solid object (armor, bone, teeth, etc.) doesn't stop it's momentus trajectory, unfortunately.
Normally, when it hits it's most common target (human bone) it begins a tumbling motion. If you can imagine a small shard of super-heated metal tumbling at 200+MPH and bouncing from bone to bone... well... don't really need to elaborate on what a .762 round could do to the inside of an American/British/German/Canadian soldier...
