That was hilarious (though I know it does not depict all republicans)!
I actually liked the selection of bible quotes used; the author didn't go to the extreme by unearthing some obsure quote but was quite able to make a bold statement using very well-known quotes.

«waggamandave : Leave it to people who are adamant about 'separation of church and state' to forever bring up Christians and conservatives.
A) How else do you suggest that those opposed to violating the Constitution, per separation of Church and State, demonstrate how those who wish TO violate it, do so, other than to 'Bring it Up'? PRAYER?
The only people that get this bent about what others believe are those that are not real sure about their own beliefs.
B) So you're suggesting that American Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Wiccans, Satanists... who are sick of Fundamentalist Conservatives CRAMMING their beliefs down everyone else's throats are all "not real sure about their own beliefs"?
Funny that both of your two statements actually helped legitimize the mindset that the cartoon was depicting.
I'd say the first verse is less about sexual immorality than it is about being self righteous and convicting others while you yourself are a sinner. The way they use it makes it seem like a free pass to do whatever you want sexually (you can do that I guess, I'm just saying that that the Bible doesn't really support a flippantly sexual lifestyle)
The second one comes across as the same way. Jesus said that when the Pharisees were trying to chop him down for not washing his hands before a meal. Jesus was also accused of being a glutton, because he and and drank and enjoyed his meals.
However, that is a far cry from, "Hey, guys, let's get drunk and use mind altering substances!" I don't think you can very well guard what comes out of your mouth when you aren't really in control of it. Besides, there are other Bibles verses that speak of the importance of trying to live cleanly.
A good example is the rest of that very chapter actually. In verses 17-20 he says, "Don't you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man 'unclean.' For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. These are what make a man 'unclean'; but eating with unwashed hands does not make him 'unclean.'"
So what I'm saying is that Jesus speaks against sexual immorality in the very same chapter.
That was his explanation to the disciples.
This gets into an even deeper discussion though, which is that you should cleanse your heart instead of your outside. However, only Jesus can truly cleanse and forgive someone of their sins. Hence, Christianity. :)
Romans 3:23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past, for he was looking ahead and including them in what he would do in this present time. God did this to demonstrate his righteousness, for he himself is fair and just, and he declares sinners to be right in his sight when they believe in Jesus."
As for the sword verse, I suppose you could interpret it that way. However, the Bible does say that in the end times Jesus will return as the Pharisees wanted him to in that day, as a conquerer. I suppose God dislikes violence because it isn't an ingredient that was originally included in his perfect creation (Eden) but He does use it, especially because He is just. Just look at the Crucifixion. He allowed His own Son to be brutally murdered.
The separation of church and state actually is pretty much the only view of that we have in the New Testament. But, an overarching theme of the Bible is that someday Jesus will return (again) as that righteous conquerer and set up his own Kingdom with Him as the perfect ruler. So I suppose that He doesn't want anyone else to try to make a perfect Christian government, because they'll surely fail. :) You can find more about that in Revelations, and more prophecy about it in the Old Testament.
For the last one, it is not necessarily money itself that is evil, but the greed or misuse of it that is evil. There are a lot of verses about money. Here are a couple of verses to flesh it out some.
"Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, serving as overseers—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock." 1 Peter 5
"No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money." Luke 16
The whole point of this is that you should know the context and entirety of a verse or teaching before you use it to make a decision on what God's actual meaning is.
