PC publishers ban dragon from breathing fire in children's book... because it's too dangerous
A leading children's author was told to drop a fire-breathing dragon shown in a new book - because the publishers feared they could be sued under health and safety regulations. picked by AutumnLotus 10 months ago

What next? Are we going to put our children in bubbles? It's insanity. I want the fire breathing dragon roasting his marshmallows with his own fire! How cool is that? I want the cooker to be red! She said they(the kids) color them red at the book signings. I bet those same kids ask if the dragon couldn't just breathe fire to toast the marshmallows. Seriously...wtf? WE WANT A FIRE BREATHING DRAGON! Oh...sorry...kind of lost my head there.

Unbelievable - I cannot fathom what moron would ever think that a kid could injure themselves trying to roast a marshmallow with their flaming breath.

Last time I checked, flaming breath was not an option on kids when you bought them. That gets added after the teen years as a non-optional upgrade.

I loved it when Elliot roasted an apple for Petey. What do they want - a trip to the closest microwave? Dragons breathed fire where I grew up & I wasn't harmed by it at all. Let kids be kids & use their imagination.

All I can think of is one Beavis and Butthead episode where they watch a documentary on Ben Franklin and decide to repeat his experiment and fly a kite in a lightening storm. That one was funny.

I'm disgusted at our society if dragons are not allowed to breathe fire because publishers are scared of lawsuits. I wonder if there are any instances of publishers being sued by parents of children who acted out things they'd seen in books.

I might be going out on a limb here, but I'm pretty sure more people have been injured by papercuts than fire-breathing dragons...

Well, that does it. I'm not going to give books as gifts anymore, in fear of suits.

Oh, that burner must not be hot since it is glowing red. According to that book I read hot burners are green. Ouch! I am going to sue the author and publisher for misrepresenting heat.

Now that is just silly. Too many lawyers, too little common sense.

WTB heat-sensing infragreen goggles...

The only way I know of to make fire green is to put a copper filament in it.

They shouldn't mention cars in children's books. Cars=accidents. Children will try to drive their parents' cars and cause accidents, killing themselves and other people. Kids should not be allowed to know cars exist. Or pretend that dragons do, apparently.

Wait...here's a novel idea. (Sorry, no pun intended)

Drop the publisher. Go with one that is not totally bonkers.

She's a well-known kids author. There would be plenty of publishing houses waiting to snatch her up if she kicked her current one to the curb.

Enough of us authors do this, the publishers will eventually get the picture.

Rightly so... I mean, if yoru child happened to come across a fictional fire-breathing beast they might hurt themselves...

Similarly, the publishers might one day come across a real reason for replacing a dragon in a children's book.

Neither of these things will happen.
