Student suspended for prank done at home
Student suspended for prank done at home
The father of a Texas girl suspended from school for taking a cell phone photo of a fellow cheerleader's bare back at home on a weekend isn't happy. Michael Bailey's 13-year-old eighth grade daughter was suspended Nov. 6 after the photo was sent to several male classmates in Alvin, south of Houston. picked by AutumnLotus 9 months ago

Back when I was in HS, I've seen worse (or better, if you know what I mean :-P) sent around HS to the point that nearly everyone in the school had it. I think the school should just chill. It's not CP, and not something the school should be suspending people over. Hell, I got into a fight in 8th grade after these three jackasses bit (yes...BIT) me and I decided to smack some sense into them. I got 3 days suspension, two of them got 1-days, and one got 3 with me. This happened in school, and is much worse than some photo of a back. I mean, wait until you get to see college facebooks.

Yeah I stabbed a kid with a pen and got 3 days. Not to mention its none of the school's business what goes on after hours during a SATURDAY NIGHT SLEEPOVER. And it was a back, I mean if it was full frontal nudity it would be .3% understandable instead of -17% understandable as to why they decided to step into something that really had nothing to do with them and save the money used for bs like this for things like supplies, or books, or teacher's wages. Thats just my 2 fifty cent pieces on the subject

Ugh, my brain just got stupider because of the area of effect moron-ness that this school has. It was even so powerful it affected me over the interwebs.

And WTF IS THIS?!?!

the three boys who viewed the photo were suspended from school for three days
So now you can not only get suspended for something you do at home, but also for something someone else does but YOU LOOK AT?!?!!

If these were my kids I would be down at the school board meeting with a chainsaw.

I am seeing more and more disturbing trends in life overall. Loss of privacy seems to be everywhere these days. I weep for the future.

Students can be suspended for underage drinking off-hours so it doesn't surprise me really.. I bet it had more to do with her sending 'compromising' pics of a classmate, and apparently without her permission. It might have been a whole other thing if they were images of herself. I don't think they could or would have been involved then. Then again, I dunno..I'm just rambling. :D

If you're at home and you commit crimes you obviously are trying to make the school look bad and everyones gonna know so it must not reflect it on the school, therefore suspension.

Frankly, I'm amazed at parents like this.

His kid takes a photo of one of her friends coming out of a shower, then sends it to a couple of boys and he's mad at the School?

Ok, the school probably overreacted, but in their zeal to blame the school for overreacting has everyone missed the original problem?

SHE TOOK A PHOTO OF HER FRIEND COMING OUT OF THE SHOWER AND GAVE IT TO CLASSMATES.

I hate parents like this. He should be angry at his daughter and I hope the police get involved. Doesn't matter who took the photo, if the girl was underaged and a picture was taken of her in a state of undress it should be prosecuted (lightly) as kiddy porn.

And then let her actions sink in a litle bit so she realizes that 3 days off from school is the lightest possible punishment she could get for this 'prank'

WE HAVE REPORTS THAT LAST NIGHT, NOT ONLY DIDNT YOU FINISH YOUR PEAS. BUT YOU ALSO DIDNT SHAVE YOUR LEGS, AND YOU MAY HAVE TOUCHED YOURSELF. YOU ARE SUSPENDED FOR 10 DAYS. Think about what you have done!

I think schools have no idea that their power and authority extends to the edge of that nicely mowed lawn with the flag pole in it, anything that happens past that, is NONE OF THEIR DAMNED BUSINESS!

Sidenote: Yay... Lvl 8!

I agree with your point... However I think you're partly wrong in that the image supposedly only shows a small portion of the top of her back (I interpret that to be her shoulders, maybe down to a little below her shoulderblades), and is furthermore small and fuzzy.

I can understand an outrage and a mild mention of "kiddy pr0n" if it were a picture of lower back up. That can be provocative (and no, I won't include a link to prove it (; )... But although information is skimpy (pun!) so far, I would wager my money that it's not a serious image whatsoever.

No, she should not be taking pictures of cheerleader friends after they get out of the shower.
No, the pictures were not kiddy pr0n.
No, she should not then send the pictures.
No, the father should not find out from the school.
Yes, the school over reacted.
Yes, I agree with you.
No, I don't think this is really that serious.

There. Sorry everyone, I've just got done outlining eight papers and I'm in an outlining/overviewing mode so you get a whole list of yes/no s... Yay!

Actually no. It was worded poorly. The girl who took the photo and the girl who sent the photo were suspended in addition to the three boys. The girl who was in the photo was not suspended.

It seems that another article goes into some more detail. The school took action when the photo was viewed at school. And the people who were involved in the viewing were suspended first for passing around 'semi-naked' photos of another girl and secondly for having their cell phones on at school.

The photo was not seen by any adults by the way. And the father is offering $1000 reward for anyone who has the photo.

So the school was possibly within it's rights to suspend the girls and boys involved. Doesn't matter where or when a photo was taken. If you're passing around 'shower shots' of another student on school grounds, they'll suspend you for it.

I totally disagree; a naked back photo shouldn't be qualified, even mildly, as child porn...mostly because sex offender laws don't leave a lot of room and are often used in a really overbearing fashion (ie. no difference between public urination and actual intent, but both get similar sex crime labels that cause problems down the road).

The kids were wrong, but a lot of Texas schools are a little liberal with the "parent in absentee" role, as with the drinking situations...

This is just pure idiocy. Last week at my school a VIDEO of a girl stripping and FIVE PICTURES of another girl leaked onto cell phones and went around the school. Did anyone get in trouble? No. Did everyone find out? Yes. But who cares. Should I be suspended for looking at a picture someone sent me. This is just stupid. If they suspended everyone that say those five pictures 3/4 of the school woud be out.

(*Note* I'm in high school, 5 videos and at least 4 sets of pictures have been released since I was a freshmen. Mainly girls send it to their boyfriend. Guys breaks up with girl, sends them to his friends)
