Oil prices have risen more than 50 per cent since the start of the year, though the price hit an all-time high of $99US last month.

The good news is that I think this will encourage more people to buy more fuel efficient vehicles and make energy-saving changes to their homes. picked by tundramonkey 10 months ago

This makes me feel ill, I'm not even kidding.

I have to heat my house with a 50/50 mix of heating oil and K-1 fuel. I can't change this, because I rent my house so I'm not authorized to make any big changes like that- nor is my landlord willing to change it (He lives in S. Carolina... the house I rent is in northern New England... ).

We weatherize, and close off unnecessary rooms in the winter months so we don't have to heat them, but this sucks.

Wanted to compare U.S. gas retail price to Sweden´s retail price recalculated in to dollars, also needed to recalculate Sweden´s litre into gallons.
This is the result, and i think it speaks for itself.

US. low price
2.795* Minnesota
us. high price
3.436* San Fransisco

swe . low price
7.608* Mora
swe. high price
8.435* Gas stations trow out sweden
* dollar per gallon

Curency 1$ = 6,43kr
1 gallon = 4.62 Liters

I'm under the impression, perhaps wrongly, that those high gas costs are due to taxes imposed by Sweden. If so, is this a method of alternate taxation that we in the US would pay in another form?

That's nothing - $9.89 per gallon in the United Kingdom and that's at one of the cheaper outlets!!!!!

I think you'll find the Gallon spoken is a US Gallon which is equivalent to 3.785 standard litres.

Regardless, petrol (or gas) in the US is cheap compared to most parts of the world.

I live in Hong Kong and do not need to heat my house nor need to own a car as taxis are cheap and public transport is excellent so there are alternatives ;-)
