How unsurprising...

If someone starts targeting all extremist Christians, WBC might be in for a bit of a surprise.

i hate those guys. i really, really do. they are horrible excuses for human beings. i hope their god smites them.

Normally I'm not an advocate for hate crimes, but anyone commiting a hate crime on the Westboro Baptist Curch are okay in my book.

I really wish I lived in that area, because I would organise plenty of counter protests. Stand in their ranks, act like one of them, hold signs with contradictory messages. One day I'm going to do it.

You'd stand out like a sore thumb--WBC is pretty much entirely one family.

It's more a cult than a religion.

Doesn't mean I can't stand with them and have a counter protest among their ranks.

I have a friend who lived in that area for a while. He said the news stations have stopped covering their protests, because they don't want to give them any more press than necessary. They say the whole area hates them... so they just ignore them.

See I think that's the problem. They are being ignored (aka: tolerated) locally, and getting covering (inter)nationally. I think we need to embarass the crap out of them, show them up, outstage them; make them look more the fools than they really are.

Standing among them with contradictory signs is one of my plans. Sure they'll know I don't belong, but they can't do much other than shout at me. The news coverage would have a field day with the "We Heart Homosexuals" sign amidst the hate propaganda.
