Those of us who have served as Chief Petty Officers have a saying, "Once a Chief, Always a Chief". I believe this is a definite time where he loses that right to be called a Chief. He loses the right to be called human, too.

This is absolutely unbelievable. As far as I am concerned this is a slap on the wrist that should have been a long hard smack down.

I realize that he did not actually do anything in this case, but he had every intention of, hence the meeting.

The fact that he is still allowed to represent the very forces that are in place to protect us is appalling.

As far as I am concerned this is just as bad religious sects protecting their own after one has committed such a heinous crime.

"In Scott's case, McDermott believes his honorable discharge could be a result of "karma." His long and successful career were simply too vast to overlook."

That above quote is horse s**t in my opinion. It is not like he stole a pack of gum. He planned on having sex with not one but TWO minors. As fas as I am concerned, that seriously lessens anything he could have done good.

Just because the Navy allowed the guy to retire because the majority of his time in service was honorable, doesn't mean the civil authorities won't "take care" of him. Yes, what he did was indeed disgracefull, not just for Navy Chiefs, but for the Navy as a whole, however he did not show up in his Chief's uniform to molest these children, he did not show up "representing" the Navy or Navy Chiefs. That is the Navy's view of it, that is why he was allowed to retire, but this in no way absolves him, he'll be drawing that retirement check in prison, hopefully while he is "touched" by some big mean inmate who is in for murder, who's daddy was abusive, also, hopefully, the courts will take his retirement and give it to abused children.

This isn't really a slap on the wrist, he's going to jail, and he's losing his entire life.

He'll hardly be able to get a job as a registered sex offender, let alone housing.

He's already served his time - a whole 9 months.

He won't need a job. We'll be paying for his pension and other benefits.

Well, he probably should have gotten more time and a Other than Honorable discharge, but pension after 20 years is usually half of active duty pay,and since his rank is reduced, that'll be about $25,000 a year.

He'll still need a job, especially at his age. I'm sure he's got lots of payments. I'm bet someone will hire him to dig ditches or something.

I don't buy this crap about "needing more people". I doubt the Navy has any trouble recruiting, at least not as much as the Army.
