i must be the only person that did not have any teachers at my high school that were worth this type of relationship...all ours were old and not attractive.

It seems like we get at least one of these a week. It didn't used to be like that. Is it happening more often now, or just being reported more often?

I like how the foresenic psychiatrist writes it off.
She likes to have sex with boys, but isn't a pedophile?

I just remember my (all boys) High School, where we (aged about 15-16) could easily embarrass a young (female) maths teacher by saying she looked pretty today...

That is because the term "pedophile" is used incorrectly by much of society.

A "pedophile" is, by definition, a person who is sexually attracted to prepubescent children.

These teenagers were not prepubescent so she is not a pedophile. That isn't to say there aren't other issues, it is just saying that she isn't a pedophile.

It's called Ephebophilia or hebephilia..I had to look it up, but I knew there was a name for it! :)

And honeslty IMO it's barely a friggin' crime...do you honestly think those kids consider themselves "victims"?...they were horny 15 and 16 year olds..I can remember what I was like at 15!!!! ...and do we really think the incidents would have had a negative impact on their lives AT ALL!!!....of course..now that it's front page news I'm sure they aren't happy about it.

It'd be one thing if it was some 40 year old hitting on 15 year olds and ONLY 15 year olds..then I could say she has a problem. But 24? Hell...who's fault is it that men reach their sexual peek and 18 and women reach it in their 30s....why are we even surprised!

I couldn't agree more. I don't imagine that a few years from now these boys are going to be sitting around a frat house with their buddies saying, "Hey man, when I was 15 I had sex with one of my teachers. Boy am I traumatized. [begins crying]"

What would you say if it was a male teacher having sex with female students?

I'd like to know what types of colleges/universities these teachers went to and what types of teacher training classes/student teaching sessions they went through.

What types of training are provided by the school district?

I remember sitting in new teacher orientation during the week before school started and listening to the district lawyer telling us newbies to never, never, ever touch a student. Even a pat on the shoulder should be avoided.

Do we really need to point out the obvious reason why that is a completely different issue?

it's bad that a man in authority has sexual relations with his female subordinates, but it's just ok for a woman in authority to have sexual relations with her male subordinates? i just don't get it ..

i thought there was a law forbidding teachers to have sexual relations with their students, regardless of their genders.

No, it's NOT a complete different issue. An adult female is just as liable for her behavior as an adult male. It's a double standard that is more than annoying.

I knew a couple of girls in high school who were sleeping with teachers. And one of those teachers confessed to me about having slept with another student a few years before. (He was obviously not the brightest bulb in the pack to confide this to a student...but he did go on to become the principal.) Also, I've heard stories from more than one middle aged man about having fooled around with teachers when they were in high school. The two girls from high school, and all of the older guys who were telling me of their exploits are all stable productive members of society.

I think this is far more prevalent than most people would like to think.

They should be punished regardless of their gender, but the trauma resulting from such an encounter(if there is any) is, as a general rule, a tad different for girls than it is for boys.

ahh, i see where you're getting at now. can't disagree with that. i still don't like that kind of disparity in reality, but no use trying to argue on plime about it.

I had also mentioned in my initial post about the age the diffent sexes peak..which is a consideration for why it's different for men and woman.

To the others that responded to my post...

I personally think that 15 and 16 year olds these days are much more aware of their sexuality than I was only 20 years ago when I was that age....including the girls these days that are very capable of seduction even at 13 or 14 (I've seen it)...I'm not saying it's right..or that I have any right to do something to a 13 year old no matter WHAT she does...but what if she looked 18 and I didn't know her real age?....

[I also want to point out that I don't go for 18 year olds...before I get the flames. :) ]

....I'm just talking about the "age of consent." A number that we as a society place laws against ...but it's an arbitrary value that in the US is generally 18....My wife and I are about the same differnce in age as these students and the teacher..but since we didn't meet until she was 29 society thinks nothing of it. Basically I was 15 when she was 7!!!! Obvoiusly if I had done something back then I'd deserve a beating...but now? No biggie. So at what point does it become OK? Where do we draw the line?...society says 18..if you live in certain parts of the US anyway. Other countries? ..MUCH less...there was a PLIME article a few back on that.

IMO it all boils down to whether or not the boys were victimized or at an age of consent regardless of the number their age happens to be and the number the law makers picked 100+ years ago.

I agree there needs to be line drawn..an 8 year old is NOT ready...but 15? 16? 17? It depends more on the person than the number but the law has to pick a number!!! That's why it's a crime..but like I initialy said..IMO...BARELY one.
