Yeah I can believe it. Some people have addictive personalities, he sounds like one. It's easy to understand where these people will take an absorbing, potentially harmless activity to an extreme.
Several times on that show on A&E "Intervention" they show people utterly addicted to computer games, their entire lives revolving around it, their behavior and mood changing dramatically and detrimentally because of gaming.
