I remember reading about the jim crow laws in Arizona, those were pretty brutal... Glad we have learned to at least set laws against such stupidity.

Maybe this is just me, but this just seems more sexist than racist... In fact I don't see the racism (feel free to point it out) but I do see a lot of old school sexism.

I am also baffled by this one

Maybe I'm just not looking hard enough :-/

well, the birthday card may imply that it's the blacks who have insane amounts of children. and, it may be me, but the 'mom' on the card appears to be a teenager, also implying that blacks have more repeat teen pregnancies

the archie comic seems to imply that if archie will serve to crabs, then hey'll serve to blacks, has he motions to the black teen as he talks. might also imply that he'd rather serve crabs than serve blacks, but that's vague.

What the Archie comic is saying yes they serve crabs and even black people, it's a feeble joke.

come to think of it ... that is the first time i've ever seen a black person in an archie comic. or a person other than Caucasian, for that matter. i think that makes the racist undertone more prominent for this cover.

That's all old school stuff, but there are pre-packaged chocolate donuts in Spain (no, not Filipinos, though that's another issue) called "Monos" (spanish for monkeys) that feature a caricatured African tribesman with a spear and such on it.

I couldn't find a picture of it, maybe it's off the market (hopefully).

That can't be right... There must be at least one black character...

perhaps the least user friendly site i have ever been to. they need some help with making webpages accessable and useable. don't try to right click to view a link in a tab or another window - it won't let you. images are way to small. very disappointing.

I don't think there was. And the guy on that cover just looks like a really, really tan white guy, or like the guy from 'Soul Man'
