You'd think a teenager with four children wouldn't have time (or the desire) to re-conceive.

Sounds like the media is dead right. The girl may not understand how she's getting pregnant--that isn't something that's innate.

That poor kid! And the girl's mother! Doubt they would have the finances for tube-tying. Plus, with the influence of the Roman Catholic philosophy...

What happened to Parenting skills on this one! This really disgusts me. Being a father of two girls This really shows me that there is no communication in this family.

Funny how times have changed. This would have been almost normal/acceptable 100 years ago. At 14, my grandmother was married, by 16 she had a son and their own home and ran the family ranch.

Maybe the first time, but I'm sure someone must have mentioned the whole "how babies are made" thing since then.

I know, eh! My grandma had her first baby when she was 15. Her mother had her first when she was 13, and then had 15 more (though only 11 survived to be adults).

Oh my goodness! When I was 17 my biggest concern was did I have the right outfit for a given day. Not, "Oh crap I now have 7 children!" That's a scary thing.

I agree about times changing; however, I infer from the article that this girl was not married. I can't even tell if the father of this set of kids, who's now out of the picture, is the father of her other 4 kids.

Okay, when you start having litters, it is time to stop.

Especially at 16.

Agreed. And it's not like she'd have any time to forget how it happened.

"Oops! I forgot to use birth control again! Tee-hee!!"

She's Catholic. Birth control is not endorsed, and while many in the US (and presumably other countries as well, but typically NOT in third world countries and poorer communities) may go against that or use alternative methods such as the rythem method, I doubt that this girl was using anything for birth control. And why do you think she would understand that having sex is what results in children? Think from a simplistic stand point. You can have sex multiple times and NOT get pregnant. The 'pregnant' part doesn't become obvious until quite some time after the sex. I can't believe that this girl even knew that birth control was an option, and she possibly doesn't know that saying 'no' to a male who wants to have sex is an option. Her culture is a far cry from ours.

And people wonder why sex education is such a critical part of schooling!

true, however, neither is pre-marital sex or having children out of wedlock.

Agreed, but sex is free. Condoms or pills cost money.
