Nursing assistants kick some serious butt. God Bless her.

When I would walk into nursing homes to get patients (as a paramedic) the nurses were sitting at the nursing station doing paperwork (for transfer to the hospital) and leaving patients with broken hips, diabetic comas, etc to themselves, as somehow the paperwork became more important than the patient themselves.

It was the NA's who were able to tell me the most and actually help me more than the nurses.

I became one of the most hated medics as upon finding my elderly patients alone would hunt down the nurse in charge and have them come to me for information gathering. I told em the paperwork can be faxed...tell me what you know, NOW. My gawd, don't leave some poor old soul alone to wonder what is going on or leave them in such pain alone!! ARGH!!

Even now, talking to staff at nursing homes at 911 is a chore. They can't tell me the patients age half the time (or tell me they were born on 19 something or other and make me do the math) and when I ask if staff is with the patient before I hang up, they aren't. I bristle every call I get from them.

I am not suprised a NA gave her all. They always do!
