Abandoned but not Forgotten Posted: 11 months ago by dOntEAtpOOp
Explore abandoned buildings from across the US.
This hotel in ohio was pretty cool.
This abandoned military base is one town over from me.
What's near you?

Pilgrim State Psychiatric Center is pretty close to me and so is King's Park Psychiatric Center.
I know the need for these two places is pretty substantial. Makes you wonder where they placed all of the people who belong there.

Friends of mine used to go through an abandoned incinerator right next to the highway in Boston. I went one time. At one point I realized I was standing in piles of asbestos so I chose to not return. It was truly amazing inside. Huge cranes and the best graffiti I ever saw in the city.
Another downside is that it was located directly next to a prison and this caused one of the trips to be busted by a large number of police thinking that an escape was being plotted. I know someone must have some pictures of the inside.

For some reason both of these reminded me of my old Rainbow 6 playing days.

Great site! Lots of places I know. Some of my faves:
Bannerman Castle is about 50 miles away from me, but whenever I drive to upstate NY I can see it from the thruway and wish I could go there.
Concord Resort Hotel - While in the Catskills, not around the corner from me, I did stay there once for a business conference. Too much food.
Creedmoor Psychiatric Hospital is about 5 minutes from my mother's place. There are great tennis courts right outside.
Fort Wadsworth is not far either, in Staten Island. Didn't know about it until this site.
The World's Fair site in Flushing Meadows Park, Queens, is a place I spent a lot of time at when I was a kid and teenager. Went to the 64-65 World's Fair, and later visited the Queens Museum several times and skated in the rink built under the NYS Pavilion towers.

Excellent post.
I love a bit of decay and abandonment.
Not quite sure whether it's as deep as a reminder of humanity's influence on the surface of the earth being superficial and temporary, or whether it's the conflict between form and function - if you take the bed out of a bedroom, what does it become? Similarly, if you take the psychiatric patients out of a psychiatric hospital, is it still a psychiatric hospital? Unless it is assigned another purpose (luxury apartments, anyone?) what is it?
In a world where labels and definitions are so important, maybe it's just that these can't be accurately labelled that make them fascinating.
Or maybe it's just that abandoned buildings are cool.
Anyway, as I started so I will finish. Excellent post.
