Burned. What an idiot. Seatbelts save lives. I'm living proof.

30+ warnings and it doesn't sink in? And THEN you go to all the trouble to have a fake seatbelt in the car anyway? Unbelievable. Astounding. INCONCEIVABLE!

Great choice for a theme pick! And, as for my comment, anything I would say would be unnecessary and completely obvious, but I digress. DUUUUUHHHHHHH!

*shakes head* That is beyond moronic. Why go to all the trouble to make a fake seat belt when it's a thousand times easier just to wear the bloody thing?
Never underestimate the power of human stupidity.

Things always work themselves out in the end.

Not wearing his seatbelt was only ONE of the things this darwin award candidate had going for himself. Hopefully he was the only one "injured"

This is why you should always wear your seatbelt. Sure, the chances of this happening to you aren't all that high but do you really want people's last thought of you to be "What an idiot"? Cause thats what it will be when they read that you weren't wearing a seatbelt..

Are they calling the Darwin Awards early this year? It's gonna take something extra special to beat that one...

I have been inspired by this post to make a scale for the measure of stupidity that I will call "The Fake Seatbelt Scale"

Of course not much would surpass the "FSB" point so most measurements would be in percentage points of the level of stupidity demonstrated in this story. For example this post would measure at maybe a .43278 FSB. However there is still room at the other end of the scale for something extraordinarily stupid that could measure a 1.5 or even a 2.

Hopefully, I will refine this scale over time by more clearly denoting points on the scale with which others may reference the stupidity of what they are measuring or AI will decide this whole idea is 3.7 FSB and do something else.

I'm glad to have that guy off our roads. I'm sure glad it wasn't me coming the other way, but I don't often go to that part of NZ.

psh..seatbelt schmeatbelt..everyone knows you're more likely to survive a car accident without one. It's a conspiracy put out there by..um..some dudes who are..uh..attempting to save lives and whatnot.

*rolls eyes*

Ya, if you're going to spend that much effort making a fake seatbelt just so you don't have to wear one you get put on a list of people I consider lacking of any intelligence.

This is a little of topic, but...

I usually wear my seatbelt, however I used to have a tiny little Honda CRX and I almost never wore my seatbelt in it. The seatbelt rubbed my shoulder funny and would cause it to to become sore.

My current car, a Volvo I always wear my seatbelt.

I find irony in the fact that I never wore my seatbelt in this very unsafe, plastic little Honda, and I always wear my seat belt in my very safe Volvo .

PS. I believe seatbelt and helmet laws are B.S.. I believe the people these laws are trying to protect should be thinned out from the herd.

I'm with Tito on this one. If someone wants to fly out their windshield, why not? Shouldn't that be their decision? I really do not like seatbelt laws.

I used to drive an older Explorer with a non-adjustable seatbelt (on the column) and it used to hit me right under my jaw. I was absolutely convinced that if I was ever in an accident, that seat belt was going to take my head off. Took my chances with going out the window. Got a ticket or two for that as well.

I always wear mine in my Volvo now, it's adjustable to fit the vertically challenged like myself. I'll accidently put it on even when I have to get out of the car and open a gate at the end of the driveway before getting on the road it's so automatic now.

Thinking maybe this guy's biggest mistake was careening onto the wrong side of the road, however...

I thought that not having a seatbelt was a secondary offense and that you couldn't get pulled over for it. It's like being pulled over for being to young. They can only pull you if you are doing something wrong

It depends on the state you live in. Here in Jersey it is most definitely something that can get you a ticket if a cop sees you driving around without one. They also just passed the same law about cell phones.

I have to agree that I am thankful that he is off the roads. Especially since he was also driving around all meth'd up.

I live in VA and i'm under 18. They passed a law that says if you're under 18 you can't drive while talking on a cell phone. coincidentily getting pulled for being to yound is a secondary offense. So if they pull you it's profiling the underage.
