Tennis girl banned for grunting
Tennis girl banned for grunting
A girl has been banned from playing tennis by her local club because she grunts too loudly. Lauryn Edwards, 9, was told at the weekend that she could no longer play her favourite sport after a complaint by an opposition player. VIDEO included. picked by AutumnLotus 7 months ago

This has to be one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. It would be time to join a new club if this was my kid.

There's no rule against it, how can they get away with it? An opponent complained, it would seem that opponent is looking for excuses for their own lack of focus.

I hope this girl goes on to become a top seed tennis star.

I don't understand why they would do if there was only one complaint.

It might make sense if there were several complaints and they were saying that her loud grunts were distracting them. If many people complained than that might indicate that there was a problem, that her excessively loud grunting was interfering with their playing and enjoyment.

That isn't the case here though. It seems to me that if there were only one complaint (no matter what the problem was) they shouldn't ban her.

If she complained about the man would they ban him?

What about that previous story about the school where they are forcing the children to refrain from wearing stripes or dots because it allegedly causes a single teacher to have migraines?

If one person had that alleged problem, would the club ban all players from wearing stripes?

No, I am sure there is more to this story than we are hearing. Or rather I hope and assume there is more to the story.

Meanwhile the morning radio shows are having fun with the audio of her grunting.

I usually live by a 'laissez faire' philosophy and I'm not sure what happened here is fair, but I must say I find that grunting disgusting. It's a major turnoff for me with grown women and with a little girl I find it very irritating.

I'm not a tennis player anymore but used to play as a kid. I know that orgasmic outcry with every_single_hit was not always common. Tennis totally lost all grace..

The thing that seems to get me is the reporter had to add in the fact that "she suffers from ADD and the game helps her focus."

Every kid has ADD nowadays, its a product of our society's "gotta have it now" mentality. Even I get pissed when I have to wait more than 10 seconds for google to load. I guess I just have a problem with the fact that they diagnose these kids with ADD or ADHD and get them on medicine and they're 9 years old? Seriously... Just because she can't sit still doesn't mean she has ADD.

But yeah they totally shouldn't have kicked her out of her club. Who cares if she grunts? The pro's do it. She probably just beat the crap out of her opponent and they found an excuse to get back at her.

I don't believe this is the complete story either, but yeah, it makes for a good story if you have a tape of the sounds she makes I guess.

The grunting itself is pretty disturbing, but not as disturbing as the fact that the 9 year old girl says it comes natural to her...smells like she's speaking for her dad, who has a problem with the the club officials...if not, then she has a way bigger problem than ADHD
