Your 16-year-old daughter falls for a divorcee of 36 and wants him to move in
When Alison Garcia, 16, announced that she was leaving home to be with her 36-year-old lover, her parents could have been forgiven for hitting the roof.

Instead, Sheila and Paul Garcia did something most other parents would find unthinkable. picked by neo3979 8 months ago

Ummm...

Yeah...

As a 36 year old guy the only thing I can see in this relationship is the sex part...

Even in that department I would feel like I was having sex with a little kid.

So, uh... No, I don't see this working out in the long run.

So very young, so very foolish. Why do these youngsters always assume they know all there is to know about relationships?

I agree. Here's what I would do, invite the guy over for dinner and talk to him about the legal consequences of having sexual relations with a minor; I'd also drop hints that I've been speaking to attorneys and police officers about the situation.

Alison claims to be "very mature for my age" - something she says her lover told her not long after they met last October.
Ok, that's the mating call of every guy courting a young girl.

This is what happens when you're too permissive with your kids, which the parents freely admit to being.

And he's 36 and living at their house? These people are just not all there.

The really sad thing about the whole situation is that all the things she likes about him describe pretty much any reasonable mature/nice guy. She seems to be swept away by the fact he's not a jerk. She's fairly pretty, I'm sure there are plenty of nice guys her own age or slightly older.

Also, I consider 16 to still be a child. I thought I was an adult when I was sixteen, but i'm no longer convinced and it's only been 2 years. So yeah.

Not to be confused with "I'm so drunk," the mating call of blondes.

If that didn't scare him off I would tell him I had reconsidered and was totally cool with it. To show him what a cool Dad I am, I would invite him on on a hunting trip. Tragically, accidents happen...

I believe 16 is the legal age of consent in Britain, so there's nothing parents can do on that front.

Last month, they invited divorced double-glazing fitter and father-of-one Craig Wright into their home, where he now shares a bedroom with their daughter.
A 36 year old going with a 16 year old, and living in her parents house.

That has catch written all over it.

Excuse me while I go induce vomiting to purge my system.

Their kid is already sneaking out to bars to drink underage and has been doing it for the past two years. She's had four 'partners' and with her liberal (ultraliberal?) upbringing I wouldn't doubt she's done worse.

Bring up your kids right parents, this kinda stuff doesn't happen overnight.

It will all end in tears - or divorce if they do marry eventually. When she is in her forties and still very much sexually active he will be in his sixties and in decline!

Truer words were never spoken. And you know those parenting skills are being learned and will be passed on to her own kids..she'll be dealing with those same issues or worse as they grow up.

i thought i had a liberal upbringing ... i never went bar hopping at that age, had a sexual relationship, or dreamt of marriage at 16. i guess that means my parents were that good; fooled me into thinking they let me do anything i want, but still had tight control over me.

i see so many red flags with this situation. i didn't see much description of the boyfriend's (or manfriend, i should say ...) previous marriage. what if this is the same thing over again? what if his first wife was also a teenager, and when she grew up, he dumped her, even though they had a child? what's stopping him from doing that over again? doesn't look like he's waiting until marriage again before getting this girlfriend pregnant and prematerly forcing her into parenthood and adulthood. then again, that could be what the girlfriend is going after; she might like that. so adult, living alone with children, going off of welfare. she might like that.

i'm so glad my parents raised me better.

Dude.. seriously wtf? I would have definatly reported him to someone.. if I was a father I would take the time in prison for killing this guy, who knows you might get off. maybe they should've been like that lady in australia who chained her daughter to the bed to keep her home..

Give the guy a break. Perhaps he is a great singer, musician, or some other artist that brings joy and a Thrill to people.

At least the 16 year old is a post-pubescent female, less than 24 months from being an adult.

It isn't like she is some 10 year old innocent little boy.

See.. this is part of the reason I wasn't knocking on teh guy. We really don't know much about him and he was picking up a girl who he thought was legal age at a BAR. It's harder to blame him (other than the fact that he didn't drop her like a sack of potatoes when he found out).
