Detained and harassed at walmart for not showing a receipt
Reader J was detained and harassed by some Walmart employees on his way out of the store the other day. J had already put his receipt inside his wallet after purchasing a $25 shower rack when a Walmart employee demanded to see his receipt picked by 1only 7 months ago

Reader J was an ass!
He said right at the beginning that Bob was a 'receipt checker'. Why didn't he just let him check it.
Why cause all that fuss - just because he could.

What a jerk!

IMO receipt checkers should only be used if I set the alarm off because the idiot cashier didn't disable it or if they see me come through a line without paying (like I do when I pay in another department).

It doesn't matter anyway since I've already banned WalMart after some extermely rude, barely 20 year old, barely English speaking photo lab employee accused me of trying to rip them off for about $4 in photos...My order was missing a large chunk of photos right in the middle..and it wasn't film, it was digital. I used to spend hundreds a year at their lab..now I use KodakGallery.

The problem isn't really Walmart..it's the morons they higher...But what do we expect..In my area the pay sucks so bad that the IQ of most of the regular staff members is lower than their age.

It's common sense that if you carry your item out without a bag, you should keep the receipt out. No one would have said a word to him, had he just kept the receipt in his hand. They would have seen it without the fuss, wished him a good day, and been done with it.

It's just kind of pathetic that he chose something like this to make a stand about, when he himself was 95% of the problem here.

My studio is right by the main door of Walmart and I hear the "SIR SIR MA'AM MA'AM EXCUSE ME" stuff all the time. The door greeters do get a bit rude over it and I myself have been accosted by very aggressive door greeters while bringing props or even my lunch in or out of the studio. Now, in defense of Walmart employees: they're just doing their job and it's really not that hard to keep your receipt or pull it out when you're exiting the store. Strong LP is one of the things that keeps Walmart prices as low as they are; if they let every punk kid who refused to submit his receipt for whatever he was walking out with pass without question, there'd be a lot more loss and a lot higher prices.

Also, the Walmart LP system is totally flawed. I feel so sorry for the door greeters, because they're trained to be ruthless and led to believe that it's their job on the line if a customer gets out of the store with unpaid merch. And a lot of times, these are the best paying jobs these folks can get, including benefits, so they're going to work their butts off to keep said job. I've seen so many door greeters get cussed out by a*****es like the guy in this story simply for doing what Walmart tells them to do, which is ask for a receipt. How much simpler would it be to affix a PAID sticker to the unbaggable merch, just like they do with people entering the store with returns. To prevent counterfeit PAID stickers, they could randomize and change them daily. Sam Walton is certainly rich enough to employ and afford such procedures.

And I love how this jackhole had no problem whipping out his receipt to get employees in trouble but was completely uncooperative in doing so to assist employees in doing their job. If he was so "embarrassed" by the scene he was causing, he shouldn't have caused a damn scene in the first place.

I hate the "the customer is always right" philosophy. In many cases the customer is a self-centered douche who knows just how to exploit the "the customer is always right" philosophy.

What happens when a customer is carrying for self-defense and fears for his life when a Wal-mart employee illegally detains him? Is it really worth it, Wal-mart?

Corporate has his name/address/phone.. the store has his picture. I would suggest strongly to Wal-Mart that they file a no-tresspass action against him.

What exactly does he expect? If I walk into a WalMart and start to walk out the door with one of their TV's they're not allowed to ask me for my receipt? Well.. I'll just TELL them I have one in my wallet as I'm pushing my way past them and they'll smile and say "Enjoy your TV sir."?

He was unreasonable, rude, and was assaulting the WalMart employee by running into him repeatedly. I believe that the court uses the term "Reasonable person's actions" or something to that effect to detemine wrongdoing. Would a reasonable person think that he should have been let out without showing his receipt? No. A reasonable person would suspect him of shoplifting and ask him to leave the merchandise where it is.

Finally Mr. J. the only people who need to fear the law, are the criminals. If you're so innocent you have nothing to fear jobwise from the police investigating you. Got some fingerprints you left somewhere? Are you in a job that requires you to be an honest person? And if you are... why are you causing such a problem to the Walmart employees? I hope they find out where this guy works and lets HIS manager know that "It seems our investigation into the shoplifting incident has come out satisfactorily. Let Mr. J know that we won't be pressing charges."

Something similar to this happened to me the other day.

I was shopping at Kroger (where everyone knows me because i go shopping at this location twice a week).

I was buying food on the attorneys credit card but before i rang that up (on the do-it-yourself scanner).

I rang up beer and put it on another card(mine).

Then i proceeded to buy the 60 dollars worth of other stuff i was buying for the attorneys.

The guy (WHO KNOWS THAT I COME HERE ALL THE TIME)

came up to me and said you know you have beer under the cart. I was like yeah Ive already paid for that.

Well who did you pay. I paid here and I showed this lady my I.D.

I went back to the norm and he just sat a foot away from me looking at me not saying anything until i left.
