Perspective on Military Deaths
Perspective on Military Deaths
Perspective: something the mainstream media refuses to give you. Did you know the number of soldiers lost during Clinton's "peacetime" years in office is more than DOUBLE what have been lost in Iraq to date?

Clinton was also criticized heavily for his invasion of...Kosovo? (I don't know which country, I've lost it for the moment). He, fortunately, changed his tune according to the people and refused to go anywhere else.

Bush on the other hand refuses to back down on his decision in Iraq and has given hints towards invading Iran or Pakistan.

I hate them both, but at least Clinton changed for the people.

What happened to 1983 amongst other years?

1983 holds a special place in my heart at that is when the Marine bunker was bombed in Lebanon and we GOT some of the wounded at Norfolk Naval Hospital where I was a corpsman.

So, why aren't the deaths from some years reported?

What an idiot the blogmaster is! Or was it because the blogger is obviously a GOP supporter and Reagan was in office then!?!?

Pfft. Morons.

I suppose this means somehow I should care less about what is going on around me right now, because of ANY deaths that have happened in the past? That any of this is either par for the course or acceptable.

Nope.

I also take the gov'ts stats on losses with a grain of salt. I wonder if my son's friends who died while in Africa are in that count?

I love that, once again, false information is being passed around as if it were gospel.

The fact that people will read this and take it for what it says breaks my heart.

I am surprised that this has not made its rounds in BS emails. The idiots I work with would have a field day with it.

Oh I don't think it's so bad, anyone with any brain mass at all will notice the flaws, bad style, weak data base, missing analysis and discussion..

There are quite a few military deaths every year, conflict or not.

In any given year something like half the military deaths reported are due to accidents.

In a major conflict the numbers of actual combat deaths obviously climb considerably.

This makes me really really angry.

How about you EDUCATE YOURSELF AND ACTUALLY READ THE DOCUMENT YOU ARE REFERRING TO!

Between 1992 and 2000 guess how many deaths there were due to HOSTILE ACTION.

Any guesses? Anyone want to stretch themselves and actually read the document? Or do you want me to tell you?

Last chance to guess.

According to the given document, between 1992 and 2000, there was ONE DEATH DUE TO HOSTILE ACTION.

Anyone want to take a guess at how many deaths there have been due to hostile action since 2000 (at least up to 2006 according to this document)?

Reminder: This figure is only up to date through 2006, and I don't really know at what point in 2006.

But the number of US Military deaths due to Hostile Action from 2000 to 2006 was

TWO THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED NINETY SIX.

SO CHECK YOUR FVCKING FACTS FIRST NEXT TIME, OKAY?

EDIT: DON'T POST FROM YOUR OWN FVCKING BLOG EITHER.

Welcome to Plime! :D

And what about the military people who were severely, even fatally, injured in Iraq, but died at home or elsewhere? Many of them are not counted as combat related deaths, so this 4,000 number is actually a few hundred low!

Like the women who committed suicide either after being raped by a higher ranking soldier, or even because they were afraid of being raped AGAIN merely because they needed to get some water or take a piss in the middle of the night! Or because they were threatened after attempting to report a rape. That activity has been a tradition in the military since WWII. I'm not making that up; I experienced it in the 80's, and know several women who were victims in Viet Nam and WWII!

I read the Yahoo headline of "Bush sympathetic about death toll" more correctly as "Bush pathetic about death toll"....

something else to point out that I just found out reading Bush's opinion on the 4,000 is that there have been over 30,000 injured service men and women. That's a bunch of people.

And to flyonthewall, it's nothing against you personally, just most of us don't like the War on Iraq

I want to apologize for being so antagonistic with my last post. Something about it touched a hot nerve, and I overreacted.

We do have a couple of guidelines here on Plime, and one of them includes not posting from blogs.

Also, there are some strong personalities on Plime, so be prepared that when you post something as polarizing as this, there will almost certainly be some backlash and voicing of strong opinions.

I hope that you realize that at best, your post is misleading, and that your statements are not backed up by the facts presented in the document provided, when it is read critically, as any document of this nature should be.

I do not want to deter you from further posts, and I am sure you will be a welcome member of Plime. Again, I apologize for the tone of my post, but I stand by the statements I made.

I think the report itself is sketchy, what about the Battle of Mogadishu ? If there was only 1 combat death in the Clinton years, which one of the 19 soldiers who died during Operation Gothic Serpent was it?

Operation Gothic Serpent. Man, that's got to be the most awesome name I've ever heard. (Goes to start a dance club with said name)

Apology appreciated. First, let me say that I didn't realize blogs were against the guidelines. Second, I didn't read the comments on the blog until after I posted here.

I did scan through the actual congressional report, although I did not do a line by line mathematical breakdown of everything. I still stand by my point of media bias and lack of perspective, for which I could provide dozens upon dozens of examples if I had the desire to do so.

Lastly, let me say that I can debate with the best of them. I used to be very active among debate boards. This is not a debate board, though, and I have absolutely no desire to spend my time here bickering. I have three children under the age of 5, so I get my share of bickering at home.
