Both our dogs are large black breeds(105lbs and 115lbs) and the comment is often made that "nobody's gonna roll up on you guys".
The Rottweiler fits that stereo type though- Not because he's mean- He's just insecure and hasn't learned that nobody's going to hurt him, unlike when he was loose on the streets. Therefore, he sees joggers as a threat, and if any dog makes any threatening actions, he goes guns up, and acts like he is ready to eat them alive.
I give him treats now whenever we pass a jogger or another dog, and he's learning to look forward to these things, but it's a slow, repetitive process.
With all that being said- Even our cat is black- So we have a house full of lovable "not wanteds" that we adopted.

In other words, black dogs could be the new black.

When I finally move into a place that will let me have a big dog I plan on getting a big black one. I prefer large dogs, most likely because I grew up around them. I always feel like I going to break the little toy ones. My parents had a large black shepherd-chow mix. My aunt raised rotties and an uncle had a big fluffy dog (may have been a Samoyed mix) when I was really little that was the best thing to snuggle up to when I was cold.
Great, I'm thousands of miles from home and I'm getting homesick for my pets.

I worked for a vet for about a year and a half and the sweetest dogs I ever had the pleasure to work with were 2 80lb Rotweiler "pups" that belonged to this little 70 year old lady. They were about 8 months old when I met them and they would calmly walk on the leash, they never tugged their owner around... but when the saw me they would rush over and knock me down to play...
VERY sweet, very trustworty very good dogs...
its a shame they have been stigmatized as such...

When I was a kid I had a guinea pig. My neighbor had an extremely mean rotweiler. He would escape his yard and not let people in or out of their houses. He ended up "playing" with my guinea pig one morning. I think that is the only aggressive one I ever met.
I have a small dog and they give good hugs too :)...when they're not being little jerks lol.

My old neighbours had some little black piece of s**t that would escape outside and bite every kid playing outside that day. Because this dog was the size of a cat, they'd say "Oh, Shy, quit being a little rascal." Thanks, I'm bleeding now and it gets a treat for being tough?? By contrast, my other neighbours had a big ol' Rottie that would only approach us if a fight broke out during street hockey - she'd try to break it up. I think that's why I still strongly dislike little dogs - because they're small, bad behavoir can go uncorrected or encouraged.
When I buy a house, I'm getting a Rottie, though. I love big dogs!

I have an 80 or so pound Rottweiler. She is pretty scary. And by scary I mean she will make you run from too many licks and tail wags.
It's sad that big black dogs have such a reputation.
