the original post is a year old, but have you even considered searching Plime for... um... mech, for example? You should give it a try.

Not a dupe exactly, but I'm downvoting it because I think not everything has to be re-posted just because it's been a while since the last time.
Especially if the original post is that easy to find.

(it's so easy I won't even link it here. :P)

I did search the archives. Silly me for thinking that just the name of the video would be enough for a keyword.

By the way, the other video isn't there any more.

I see; removed the downvote.

It's good to know we allow people to become level 10 without ever teaching them the voting etiquette, by the way.

Nonsense. This was the rare instance in which I downvoted. If the post was within the Plime rules, then that's all there is to it. I personally knew nothing of the earlier posting of this link to Plime, and might never have seen it had the OP not made it known. You're not the only person who uses this site.

And it's not poor etiquette to downvote. That's like saying it's poor etiquette to vote my conscience in the coming elections. I mean after all, youdownvoted according to your conscience. If you get to, then so do I. On Plime there are two ways to vote: up or down. I disapproved your chastisement of the OP, because the OP was well-within the rules. So I certainly wasn't about to upvote your downvote. That's the way it is in a democracy: not everyone gets the upvote every time. I've been downvoted on occasion. I've never whined about it.

About Plime
Plime is an editable wiki community where users can add and edit weird and interesting links. Users earn karma when other users vote on their actions. The more karma you have, the more power you have at Plime.

As I said in the first post, I downvoted it because I thought it was redundant. There may be users who haven't seen all the posts ever made, but that doesn't mean we have to recycle the entire content on a regular basis - I hope everyone agrees on not posting something that can be found by performing a simple search, even if it's older than a month, and given that it's not likely to be perceived as some kind of "Plime classic" or general meme (if you don't agree, excuse me for a few minutes; I have 1780 pages of old news to post).

And yes, it is poor etiquette to downvote a legitimate comment without an obvious reason (I commented to explain my downvote, by the way). I don't think that something like "chastisement" took place. It was just that the originally post in fact was super-easy to find - usually, people say something like "repost from 8 months ago, but original link doesn't work" in their descriptions if that's the case. So I assumed that hyper hadn't checked properly - sh*t happens, no big deal, but neither a reason to keep the post.

Saying it's super easy to find isn't the same as showing how easy it is to find. The OP did search the archives, using what I agree must be the most obvious of keywords, the title of the video. It wasn't found. There was no negligence.

And incidentally, I don't have to give my reasons for how I vote. That's privileged information and will be given to others at my discretion. You want to call that poor etiquette? That's up to you. I'm not a teenager hungering for my peers to grant me their spoken approval.

I said in my comment what to search for - there was 1 (one) search result for mech.
We all know the Plime search engine doesn't speak Boolean, so a search for more than one word is pretty much futile. There is, however, a foolproof workaround (described many, many times, and having its own FAQ forum thread, which I'm not posting here, because I can't open any more tabs right now, but I'm sure you'll be able to find it) - this workaround immediately found the original post when applied to the equally descriptive (hence "descriptive tags") search terms nazi, robot. That, by the way, means that the Plime search engine would have come up with the same result both for just nazi and just robot.

All I'm asking for is people sometimes taking just a little more effort before submitting something. It helps improving Plime for everyone.

That's why I think it's poor etiquette, as opposed to a rule violation.

I don't wanna get involved but it made me chuckle that you said you don't care about downvotes but the comment above that you made was downvoted to a minus so you upvoted yourself!! lmao

Just a small point, upvoting your own comments won't affect you overall rating, not even if you cross your fingers and wish really hard. ;)

I upvoted my own post only as an amusement in this case due to the circumstances. I challenge you to demonstrate that I'm in the habit of upvoting myself. Go ahead. Do it now. In the mean time I'll point out all the upvotes I've given to suckersclub even since this controversy arose. The point of downvoting him was not to reduce him in status. It was to call his attention and create a conversation. I even reversed my original downvote a long time ago.

I don't care about my rating. What does my rating get me? Does it pay my bills? Does it make me better educated? Or does it just give a FALSE sense of social status? This is just a news site. ANYONE who gives even one measly sh't about their rating on this site is in serious need of a reality check.

I saw this awhile ago from other sources, still waiting for the video game.

And since we're all having a nice little b***hfest; you get upvoted, you get downvoted, you continue with your life and your posting. The only time I see downvoting as a problem is if it's done maliciously. At the same time, I guard my own upvotes, upvoting what I think is amusing or good for the community. I think it's poor etiquette altogether to turn a simple post about this into a bigger deal than it should have been.

Reposting old content is the 'Way of the Web' and just because you've seen something before doesn't mean everyone has. It's what all Internet communities have to deal with, but it doesn't need to be thrown into the spotlight each time it happens.

Is it sad that being only ranked 7, I can see this whereas others who have been here longer than me cannot? That's up to you to decide. Does it matter? No.
