I'm wondering why multiple tissue samples were not analysed in the first place. Goodness knows I'm familiar with lab contamination (though with rocks, not people), and even I know to have extra samples to resubmit if the results are either incredible or questionable.

Sommer's co-workers testified during the trial that the widow didn't grieve quietly in the weeks after the death. She got her breasts enlarged and, witnesses said, joined wet T-shirt contests at nightclubs and had casual sex with other military men.
A good friend of mine grieved in a similar manner right after he lost his wife to cancer.
Nobody really batted an eye, because "that's just how men work sometimes."
But it's considered damning if a woman does the same thing?

I'm glad for her that the new evidence was brought to light.

something odd happened here. I hope there is some sort of follow-up.

^I agree, this story leaves me with many more questions than answers.

Wow! If they hadn't done the extra tests she probably would have been convicted.

If the defendant was a poor, marginal IQ or ethnic person I suspect the additional tests may not have been done. This kind of case, with a more vulnerable defendant, would be considered a slam dunk by many prosecutors with understandably limited budgets.

Good follow up post to the one on freeing innocents on death row.
