Can you hear the "Mosquito"?
Can you hear the "Mosquito"?
In response to cb__'s post. This is the sound they are talking about when they mention a high pitched sound only teens can hear. I can still hear it. Can you? picked by zumacrum 3 months ago

I'm 25 and I can hear it.
Some kids are actually using it as a ring-tone in class so that the teacher can't tell when they're texting back and forth.

See what the highest frequency you can hear is:

It guesses your age based on what frequency you can hear. Mine got my age dead on.
WOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

It says I'm 20 years old.

I'm 32!!!

Now if only my looks were like my hearing. I'd be unstoppable.

You are in your twenties
You can still hear reasonably well and you can play this without my old fart colleagues hearing it which makes you feel kinda good.

The highest pitched ultrasonic mosquito ringtone that I can hear is 15.8kHz
That just made my day!

« bluenutria : I heard this too. I think there are sounds that are higher in register than this sound. Some sounds are completely inaudible to those over 20.
It's in too high a register?

All I can think of is....

I'm 15 and this freaking noise causes me excruciating pain in my head; it feels like someone is stabbing me in the temples.

Some wise asses in my History class decided to play it and see if our relatively young teacher could hear it. I gasped in pain when it came on and barked "TURN THAT OFF NOW, PLEASE". The teacher couldn't hear it but the rest of the class noticed.

As a side note, I have a friend a year or so older than I who cannot hear the noise.

After working underneath turning helicopters for 6 years AND going to almost every Hair Metal Concert in the late 80's and early 90's....I have significant hearing loss in both ears.

I know that I will probably need hearing aides by the time I'm 50.

[sarcasm]Thanks for rubbing salt in my wounds...[/sarcasm]

You worked with helicopters? That's neat! Are you an av. engineer?

I hate that loud noise gap between the helicopter landing beside me and me getting my headset/earmuffs on. So loud, and the little 500's are the worst!

No, I was an Aviation Ordnanceman. IYAOYAS!

I worked on the AH-1W (an occasional AH-1J) and the UH-1N. I got to occasionally (read: very, very rarely) get to play door gunner in the Heuy.

Here's me in the magazine aboard the USS Tripoli (in 1990-91) standing in front of some Hellfire missiles. Watch out girls, I'm too sexy for my shirt in this picture!

I could hear the 19. It said that I am really young or take good care of my hearing. When I played in the marching band at Ok State we were taught to be really careful with our hearing because it is very useful for those who were majoring in music. I didn't really heed that warning, but I am glad to know that I still have the hearing of a kid at the age of 26. Yay me!!!

I can hear it very clearly when I turn my speakers up all the way. It actually causes my molars to buzz, and my sinuses to hurt like I've recently been sneezing. Not pleasant.
I tested myself afterward by turning my speakers back to normal level and playing it. I couldn't hear it anymore, but my teeth and sinuses still felt it... just not as harshly.
