I tried to imagine what this woman has been through but I couldn't even begin to comprehend it.

Something the article doesn't mention is what's been going on with her kids, the oldest of which is 20. They would have to have been kept prisoner as well to keep from spilling the beans. Also, have they been abused as well?

I was wondering about the children too. What an awful and despicable mess. I don't know if that woman will ever be made whole, and who knows about those poor kids. It is awful. Thank goodness he has been caught. At 73, I am sure he will do well in prison.

From this BBC article, 3 were kept in the cellar and 3 lived with their grandparents:

"They are being cared for individually - those between 12 and 16 years of age who grew up with their grandparents, and two boys who, when they came out yesterday with their mother, saw the daylight for the first time in their lives."

The three children who grew up with their grandparents were left at birth outside the house, the first accompanied by a note from Elisabeth in which she said she could not care for the baby herself.

That's much more extensive. How utterly horrendous. It is unbelievable what some people can do and get away with. 24 years. That poor woman, those poor kids. Seeing daylight for the first time. It's just incredible.

That was the thing that really got to me - I can't imagine a) how that would be to have been raised like that and b) how you would have to be to do that to someone.
