I think that is great... I am not a scotch or whisky fan, but it does tickle me some how.

However, I am wondering if the Japanese makers wouldn't run into a similar problem that the Champagne makers in America did by calling their stuff champagne even if it wasn't made in the champagne region of France, forcing the Americans to call their stuff "sparkling wine".

I know that the different spelling of Whisky vs. Whiskie denotes the region it comes from. Maye the Japanese can call their stuff 'Scootch'

Whiskey denotes that the stuff is from Ireland.

Otherwise it is whisky where-ever it is from. If it's from Scotland it is called Scotch Whisky.

Other than that there are no restrictions on naming.

(Whiskies would be the plural of whiskey or whisky, but whiskie is not an accepted spelling - I point this out for the greater good and because you expressed an interest, not to be an internet pedant).
