Holding legislation that allows a cop to kill someone if they feel threatened, if it is true or not, doesn't necessary mean it isn't still murder. What makes the job of a few street cops so prestigious that they can go around personally removing lives from their city?
EDIT to add: By doing this, aren't we just being hypocrites? "You may not kill, but we may"?

There will be no proof one way or the other by reading articles in the paper for either side. The fact is that they shot at three guys 50 times. The fact also is that the three guys tried to run them down, and were drinking and smoking dope. Mistakes were made on both sides, and horribly one guy died for it.

One thing that IS certain that I got from this article is that the Sharptons of the world do NOT call for justice when there is black on black murder, or white on white or when police officers are killed regardless of race. The sooner they shut their big fat mouths the better off we will all be. They are just there to forward their political agendas.

We could always take the guns away from the police, and see how well that works at curbing violence.

I could not agree more.

I could not disagree more.

If a cop feels threatened and shoots someone, it's self defense... not murder. Just like when a civilian shoots someone who is threatening them.

"What makes the job of a few street cops so prestigious that they can go around personally removing lives from their city?"

There's all kinds of things wrong with this question. Its premise is wrong, particularly in regards to this case. To put a lawyerly phrasing on it: You're entering facts not in evidence.

Secondly, what makes a "street cops" job so prestigious is that without them we'd still be in the wild wild west days.

If you don't get it, we will not argue. The point was that they aren't any more qualified to kill people than you or me. I don't put blind faith in a buch of jackasses who barely made it out of high school. Some of them get their badge in exchange for a GED. And now they can kill people. Makes perfect sense.

What? What do you mean "now they can kill people"? The use of deadly force to protect yourself has been an aspect of law for hundreds of years.

Secondly, what's with the generalizations regarding cops? If what you're saying were true, there would be a ton more police shootings like this. Third, in this particular case, the cops were detectives who undergo additional training.

I mean that this happens more often than it should and I am not satisfied by the same reasoning that makes you not care about it. And it wasn't a generalization of any sort, just an obvious fact about the profession: anybody can be a cop. And so what if they were detectives. That means that they are even more qualified to gun people down? That logic makes me ill.

You trust cops.
I don't.
We are only going to continue bashing heads with one another. Let's end this, or you should prepare yourself for me to rabble on for days about how police brutality aint no joke.

Many police agencies require a degree. No, not everyone can be a cop. It's a job that most would never even want. Think what you want, but don't think that because you think it, it suddenly becomes true.
