Hanna Montana shows off her back
Hanna Montana shows off her back
Annie Leibovitz took a pic of Hanna covered with draping fabric with her back exposed for the whole world to see. Is it child exploitation?

This was at the same photo shoot she did with her parents, but only asked the girl to take her shirt off after her parents had left. picked by PulsisX 5 months ago

blah blah...yadda yadda... exploitation? Well perhaps but then you could make the same claim over her multi-mega-super-duper-ultra-huge-many zillions of dollars career.

What 2Many said - the exploitation of that one started a long time ago.

As far has that MMSDUHMZ$ career goes, well there really is no such thing as bad publicty.

Whether done for artistic purposes or not that photo was innapropriate. She's 15 and while she may come off as precocious, she's still easily manipulated and it wasn't fair to put her in the position of deciding whether or not she should take a photo like that. I'm actually pretty disapointed in the parents. If they were leaving the set they should have taken her with them. She's old enough to make a lot of decisions on her own but she did say "when she looks at you with those puppy dog eyes you can't say no" or something which means she wasn't ready to fend for herself in this situation.

I saw the pic in question yesterday. I have a 14 year old daughter and a 9 year old daughter. The younger one is really into Hannah Montana and it would not bother me in the least to have her see this picture.

Yes it is an exposed back of a 15 year old girl. So what? It also looks like she had too much kool-aid and it stained her lips red.

I think that people need to stop getting up in arms about such trivial stuff.

I agree with you that she has been being exploited by her parents for some time now and that there is no bad publicity in such a career.

I am just curious about where the lines of this issue are. If your cousin took the same pic and police found it on your PC do you think that you would have some explaining to do? The other thing is that it is a pretty tame pic that I don't really think in itself is at all offensive. It just gets a little weird with the situation in which it was taken. Or is it not that weird? Was the whole thing staged for publicity? dunno.

Her parents left but she still had family there and "handlers" who's job it is to make sure she doesn't do stupid stuff while the parents are away. Its like having a babysitter 24/7. So there was an adult responsible for protecting her chaste image and they still let her go for it.

I think this whole thing is a clever publicity stunt. I don't find the photograph to be inappropriate or offensive in any way. I am certain there would have been much less media attention about it if she hadn't made a public apology about the photo.

Wow, I thought this was it: NSFW

« MeMe : a photo like that
What do you mean? The photo is neither revealing nor explicit, it is not even suggestive. Except maybe for pedophiles. But than again for pedophiles any photo of an under aged might be suggestive.

that pic at least has some artistic merit, and everyone knows the types of photos that Annie Leibovitz takes, were they expecting a Sears family portrait??
I would just like to point out that this is her and her mom, and I think this is WAY WORSE to approve for your 14 yr old.

True, but they aren't seated in a boudoir type scene, clutching a sheet to their chest!

The image is beautiful as a photo of a sweet young woman, but because she is 15, it is more than a bit inappropriate! Liebowitz likes to push boundaries, and I like her work a lot, but this is rather salacious.

Sales of Vanity Fair will be high that month based solely on this image, but it has amazing photos in it every month!
