Rash of Manhole Cover Thefts
Rash of Manhole Cover Thefts
There's been a rash of thefts of manhole covers in the city of Long Beach. Some 55 have been stolen in the past few months -- five of which were just discovered missing on Tuesday. The problem is that when left uncovered, the holes are a danger to people and cars. picked by prish 4 months ago

I have some theories on this.

1) They're being chrome plated and bolted to rims, rolling on dubs.

2) They're going to show up in some artists' concept piece, complete with all the requisite bush/nazi references, global warming, corporate evil, blahBlahBlah.

3) Kids think it's funny to watch dogs and people disappear into a hole in the street. It would amuse me, that's for sure.

Is the price of metal increasing so bad that it is worth to collect manhole covers?
Whats next? Stealing traffic signs for the aluminum?
