 Mother's Day--Where it came from.
Mother's Day--Where it came from.
100 years ago, a woman fought to have a day to honor mother's after her mother had died. How do we compare today in the celebrations?

I searched. On my honor. Happy Mothers Day to all my sister plimates! picked by eLJay 2 months ago

I got woke up this morning around 6:45 to un-toasted English Muffins, a very tall glass of milk and homemade creations. I remember doing this for my Mom. It's the simple things. Yes, there are gifts waiting for me, and I am sure I will enjoy them. But it's the simple things.

To all my sisters, whether you are mother or not, know that I love you for all that you do for your loved ones.

To follow up on eljay's Mother's Day breakfast, the girls also brought up a bowl of cereal and water for me. I got a card. We have the MOST WONDERFUL, THOUGHTFUL, AWESOME children!

Kind of. But I have to take issue with a few things in the article.

Mother's Day is a lot older than 100 years. In the UK, it can be traced back at least as far as the 16th Century and stems back to the ancient Roman festival of Matronalia. Matronalia itself as the Romanticising of a Greek festival dedicated to Cybele, Earth Mother.

What Anna Jarvis did (and by no means am I belittling her or her efforts) was to campaign to have an established tradition that hadn't followed the Plymouth Brethren finally and officially adopted on the North American continent.

Given the anti-commercialist slant of the article I'm quite surprised that this wasn't mentioned too.

But all of that aside, I hope that everyone in North America got/gave the appropriate consideration (the rest of the world does it on a different date).

My husband got up early and cleaned the house (yay! that was *exactly* what I wanted!), and when I woke up he gave me a cute pair of silver stud earrings in the shape of frogs. He said technically our 2-year-old chose them... he put 4 pairs in front of her at the jewelry store and said to pick one, and these are the ones she pointed to.

The rest of the day we spent at a wild/exotic animal refuge, with Mr. Marli, our daughter, my mom, and myself. It was very cool, and we're completely exhausted.
