 The Pirates Can't Be Stopped
The Pirates Can't Be Stopped
A teenager hacked into the outfit charged with protecting companies like Sony, Universal, and Activision from online piracy—the most daring exploit yet in the escalating war between fans and corporate giants. Guess which side is winning. picked by cristeaiulian 2 months ago

Sunde is a bit of a philosopher when it comes to what his site does. As he sees it, the Pirate Bay is simply delivering a service to consumers, giving them the entertainment they want when they want it. He motions to the home theater he has rigged up: "Just look at this. I have my own cinema. When I watch a movie, I'd rather be here with a blanket and a girlfriend than at the cinema with a lot of people that are annoying. And that has nothing to do with file sharing. The technology is here for us, so why shouldn't we do it?" As far as Sunde is concerned, Hollywood should stop attacking him and start listening. According to him, consumers don't care about how Hollywood wants to schedule its releases—movie theaters first, then pay-per-view, and so on. They want the content when and where it's convenient and comfortable. Is that so hard to understand?
I completely agree with this guy. Hollywood can't seem to evolve past how it's always done things that it's panicking in the face of change.

Personally, If I like something enough to want to see more of its type, I'll support it. That goes for music, movies and games.

You can't stop the pirates!

The RIAA, MPAA, and others of their ilk are just stuck in the past. They need to learn how to make technology work FOR them instead of fighting against it. I agree with Sunde, these games/movies/music were made for the people.

Arrrrr, long live the pirates!

Music was/is ritual, spiritual, and a means of passing along history and mythology...

Not sure why the RIAA feels that they are the *only* purveyors and as such are entitled to regulate. charging for music is a relatively *new* concept in the human timeline.

yep. evolve.

Youtube already has plenty of user generated things that are equally as entertaining. (in regards to hollywood) Especially after recently watching "Mr.Woodcock"

VERY interesting article.

However...I am against software piracy simply because I am a computer engineer, and I don't want people stealing my code, so i don't steal others' code :)

I don't steal movies or music either...BUT I know people who have actively changed their stance from mine to the opposite BECAUSE of what these morons have put into place.

Things like DVDs that you HAVE to watch an idiotic antipiracy clip before you see the movie - EVERY F*CKING TIME - EVEN if you BOUGHT IT

Things like f*cking commercials in your movies - that cannot be skipped

Things like nondownloadable content that you have to pay for with horrible user interfaces

People do NOT want to be called a criminal, they do NOT want to have their intelligence insulted, they DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT want to have your idi-f*cking-otic commercials shoved down their throats. For as long as this sh*t exists there will be thousands upon thousands of pirates who WILL get through whatever you put in place for security.

The sooner they realize that times change and that if they adapt to these new times, they will make a profit, the better.

AND the RIAA and MPAA idiots can drop dead too, so it will be a win win win situation.

My favorite part was when they said "if we can just make stealing not cool, that'll stop them. Just get Brad Pitt or Shia LeBuff to do a PSA" (/paraphrase).

Yea. That's it. All the pirates are just simple-minded teenagers (which apparently means morons, to them) who are easily swayed by a commercial with an attractive male celebrity..

Go ahead and try that, and you'll just see more antipiracy parodies spring up. See here.

For me, I want an alternative to going to the movie theater. I like to watch movies when they first come out, but I absolutely hate sitting in a movie theater, I'd rather watch them on my wide screen in my home with my girlfriend. Of course price is part of this, but I really just got tired of people answering calls and talking to their friends around us. The way to stop piracy, is to provide a better service than what the pirates provide. You can't beat them on price, so you have to beat them on convenience and quality.

If I can pay $5-10 to download a new movie and watch it in my house when a movie is first released in theaters, in HD, I'd see little reason to find a free alternative, since I will not go to see a movie in theaters, and I will not pay $35 for a blue-ray 6 months later.

That being said, I don't pirate music/movies over p2p, I just don't have the patience to wait days or hours to download something, that given the speed of my internet (7mbit) should only take 15 minutes - 2 hours.

well, here's my thing with the music. I have a yahoo subscription. I've paid for the music I want. It's mine now.

wait. no it's not. I only have limited access to the file and an expiration date.

that's outright bulls**t. So, we have a way to keep the music we've paid for.

I feel it's a reasonable compromise. Having to pay per song or for subscriptions and then not actually "owning" it is garbage.
