San Francisco is planning to install “homeless parking meters"
In the dumbest idea since the proposed "homeless credit card machines", San Francisco officials want you to give your spare change to them instead of the homeless. picked by tigertony 2 months ago

HOBO TOWN!!! ... it's like disneyland ... only it smells like urine and there's people sleeping everywhere and crackheads parading up and down the streets ... on second thought, scratch that, it's nothing like disneyland ... :(

I was envisioning something more like from "little monsters"

I wonder if the lady with the bench idea had anything to do with this.

I'd rather 70% of it got pissed away by the city as long as 30% went to do something good for the homeless.

99% of the change you give directly to homeless goes to booze...

I think I'd rather give the money to the person than pay their "rent". I don't know what the answer is, but somehow, I don't think this is it.

this is stupid, I don't trust these generalized "charity organizations" to spend the money in a way that efficiently helps the homeless. Not that I expect all homeless people to be efficient but at least they get the chance if I give the money directly. I think things like panhandling hitchhiking and street performances should be legal and not discouraged by the government.

I do agree that most of their money goes to drugs and alcohol, but we have a couple homeless people in town that actually buy things they need with their money. I think that if people want to help but don't want the person to buy drugs, then buy them a sandwich. If they don't want the sandwich, then screw 'em.

I do. But I volunteer for several organizations locally on a regular basis.

The idea is fine. It's better than giving your money to the people -- they'll just waste it.

I agree, I will buy them food, but I wont give them change
