I hope the game started making "yo mama" jokes at her too. It's a matter of time before computers become our insulting companions....just like our girlfriends and boyfriends.

Its amusing that the phrase "you're fat" even made it into the game. But if the game called me fat I'd show it, by totally pwning at every task it gave me, not by whining like a little girl (referring to the dad not the kid).

I completely agree with the dad here.

"You're fat" is a dangerous phrase around girls.

It should have been easy to make the game so that the user could enter their age and have the game adjust the results accordingly.

I did the same thing as soon as I read this and got a 20 also which is safely in the normal range (18.5-24.9). This tells me that either someone is not totally honest about her weight and height or the programming in the game has a glitch. Either way, I don't think it should be taken seriously enough to do any emotional damage.
I mean really, my children and I play games alot, obviously one of us has to lose each game/round. Should I throw a fit and worry about my childrens mental health and self image because the game is calling them a loser? It's a freaking game! They are made for entertainment! If your kid is so into video games that they can have an impact on their self image and lifestyle then it's definetly time to put the controller down and go outside and play!

It doesn't actually say what terminology was used in the game. I know that everybody else said it called her "fat," and that nintendo appologized if the way they worded things was offensive, but it never actually confirmed in the article that the game used the term "fat." I'm very curious, and highly doubtful that this was the word used, not just because it would blatantly be offensive, but because I don't think it's medically accurate to call a person fat. I think the proper terminology would be "obese," or "overweight."

Overweight and obese are different--overweight is a BMI 25-29, Obese is 30-34, Morbidly Obese is above 34. Not all include Morbidly Obese though.

Yes, but in either case, the technical term would not be "fat."

Speaking as a fatass myself: that just isnt helpful.

i remember going to the doctors when i was 9 or 10 for a normal check up. and after he checked my breathing and did all the normal s**t he kneeled on the floor in front of me, looked me gravely in the face like i had CANCER and said "you're fat'. well DONE. i'm fat not blind dips**t. people who are overweight 9 times out of 10 know that, that dont need it spelled out. now since this is the wee-fit and about exorcise they could of phrased as an amount you'd need to exorcise or something along those lines. if you hurt the players feelings they wont go back ;p

That sounds too hilarious to be true. I want to see this replicated on film in the funniest way possible.

A 10 year old who weighs 92 pounds at 4'9" is a bit pudgy, but still growing. At that age, all the fat starts shifting around, so it's really hard to say based on height and weight alone. An active healthy kid with one chin can't really be called fat....

And dividing height and weight to get BMI is one of the faultiest methods ever. It doesn't allow for muscular build. Muscle is denser than fat. Many professional athletes are termed "overweight" to "obese" because they are so fit!

I don't buy the numbers I get from that method. Yes, I know I'm 75 pounds above my weight in my 20s, but I wear an 18 petite. As a former athlete and weightlifter, I had more muscle mass than many women around me. As a disabled person, I don't know where I stand as far as muscle atrophy....

There should be an option for Wii users under 15 to skip that step. If the kid is trying the game, there's hope that if they are overweight, they will start to exercise with the game!

This sounds like complete BS to me.

Complete.

No name, no photo, not even the town where they lived?

Googling the story finds no source that isn't either this copied directly or a reprint in another Daily Mail title.

Bored journo makes it up again.
