But until the delegate votes are cast, McCain is not the official nominee.

Yes, but McCain has won the popular vote, and I don't think America will put up with another (republican) president winning the election without winning the popular votes.

Completely irrelevant. He won the popular vote of registered republicans. Besides, you cannot tell me that a decent portion of Paul's votes didn't come from independents and democrats. Hell, I changed sides just to vote for him, and I never thought I would vote republican.

Actually he didn't win the popular vote of registered republicans, that's what I was saying. He has now, since the others dropped out. But before Romney dropped, he didn't have one win with a republican only state.

Yes, they all got independent votes and such...but my point was that the popular vote isn't really all that important, and you'll see that with the super delegates in the DNP too.

I understand the popular vote isn't literally important for the nomination, but I don't know if the American people would put up with another winner who lost the popular votes.
