"Parents" sue metal baseball bat maker
The family contends metal baseball bats are inherently unsafe for youth games because the ball comes off them much faster than from wooden bats. The lawsuit will also be filed against Little League Baseball and a sporting goods chain that sold the bat. picked by 2manyusernames 3 months ago

Parents with no self-responsibility, parents looking to strike gold may feel that the ball comes off the bat faster, but the reality is that they don't.

Perhaps baseball should be banned and only wiffle ball be allowed.

So...do people sit around in groups and brainstorm about what they think they can successfully sue?

Come on! This is ridiculous! The courts should fine these people $100,000 for a frivolous lawsuit!

My immediate reaction was, "Oh give me a break!" It still is, but upon reading the article, I can't help but wonder if the ball hitting him in the chest didn't save his life. Maybe there was something wrong with his heart and nobody knew about it. Still, it is a ridiculous claim. It is a horrible thing that happened yes. I can't imagine their grief. I imagine they are estimating their grief to be worth millions.

That may be the case in little league, but my husband plays adult softball and he is a pitcher. There are composite bats out there that have been banned from the ASA because of the speed at which the ball comes off of the bat. The Miken Ultra Plus I think is banned and we had another bat that was banned the year after we bought it. People have been seriously hurt and that is why these bats have been banned. You can tell the difference with these bats because the batter barely has to swing and the ball sails over the fence. Lots of teams will use these illegal bats but have them painted to look like legal bats. A good official can tell the difference though by looking at the cap on the end.

The ATTORNEY says that the care of the boy will cost them millions. Oh, really? They never actually say what the disabilities are except that they are severe. A quick gander at the picture shows that he can move limbs, breathe on his own, and can sit upright. I agree with some of the comments on the original story, these parents lack responsibility and accountability. They are looking for a scapegoat. I am sorry that this accident happened. It really could have happened to anyone. Unfortunately, for the justice system, it happened to someone with money enough to afford a high priced attorney with dollar signs in his eyes.

Isn't the risk of injury inherent in everything? Driving a car, walking around the block, eating breakfast. I could slip and fall in my shower. I'm so tired of hearing people sue because of accidents!

Unless the league made a one-in-a-million blunder this kids parents signed a release of liability form. Everyone knows sports are dangerous. I guess most people don't think that 0.001% chance to get killed or crippled or whatever will ever happen to them so they sign the form even though they aren't truly willing to take the risk.

If the parents sue, i say let the bat comapany sue the parents for genetically screwing their son with a lowered hand/eye reaction time. the kid should sue his parents too for the recessive genetics. heck that 3rd base coach for some minor league team got killed by a line drive to the head. his family didnt sue, but they made sure all base coaches wear helmets too. now the majors adopted the same rule. all i'm saying is if you come to the table with a complaint, also bring a few possible resolutions with ya. poor kid, stuck with those parents.

Unless the bat company physically made the batter use the bat, they are not at fault. They just make the bats, they don't make people use them.
