Good for Dallas!

I plan on getting something like this and secretly putting it in my kids car when they get old enough to drive.

I can readily see the advantages of this, but I am also keenly aware of the possible disadvantages. Basically, the infrastructure of Mr. Winston Smith's nemesis is slowly (?) being built.

Of course, I may just be paranoid. :)

Since this is supposed to prevent truancy and prevent students from dropping out why do they need to track them 24/7? I don't doubt the results but tracking every movement especially outside of school hours?

You can do this with a verizon cell phone, probably others too, but there's a program you can download and install called chaperon that will pinpoint their location.

Agreed, I don't think anyone but a childs parents should know where they are 24/7.

From what I can tell they system is only for those students who have missed so much school(50+ days) that they're in truancy court with it all court ordered. So basically it's kind of like probation. I was wary of it at first, but after reading it I think it's a good thing.

That's exactly what I will be doing. My daughter turns 14 in a few months, and we will be getting her a cell phone, but it has to have GPS.
