Do not mess with a christian's cracker!
Do not mess with a christian's cracker!
PZ Myers of Pharyngula blogged about a college student who smuggled a Eucharist out of his church. The man caught some serious flak including death threats and threats from his college. PZ was shocked at the attitude and offered to desecrate a Eucharist if someone could get him one. Read the death threats from the "christians" he received. picked by BernardBlack 3 months ago

I was completely speechless, that is until PZ said it for me:

This is insane. These people are demented f**kwits.

"The Catholic League is going after your job because you are a vile anti- Catholic bigot who really does deserve to pay a high price professonally for such a public act of contempt for the Catholic faith of tens of millions of your fellow countrymen."

Wow. Such a wonderful response. I love how Christian justice evolved, y'know, the whole Sermon on the Mount.

Did it not occur to the Catholic League that they are vile anti-anti- Catholic bigots who really do deserve to pay a high price professionally for disgracing tens of millions of their fellow countrymen?

The American Taliban is alive and well I see.

If this cookie is the actual flesh of ol' JC, I've always wondered where it's from. Flank steak? Sirloin? I mean, this should be top notch Black "Angus Dei"? Or on second thought, does it taste more like mutton?

I've read accounts of cannibals describing the taste of human flesh as being akin to pork (a random bit of trivia I know, but this seemed as good a place as any to tell it:).

I once made my hubby laugh out loud during church by telling him the body of Christ gave me heartburn.

Oh goodness. It's radical people like the death threat people that make all religion look like insanity. Regardless of what the Catholic church teaches, these people are going too far.

You do have to admit, though, that based on what these people believe to be true, desecration of the Eucharist is a pretty terrible thing. Just because this guy doesn't happen to be on board with catholicism doesn't mean he needs to be so blatantly disrespectful of what others choose to believe. This of course goes both ways, he should be respected for his choice of disbelief as well.

People just behave badly far too often no matter who they are or what they believe.

I'm sure that Vatican scientists must be hard at work on a Jesus detector that will sound an alarm if anyone tries to leave the church with an unconsumed communion host. When the alarm goes off, SWAT teams of ninja nuns will slide down from the church rafters on ropes, subdue the miscreant, reclaim the consecrated wafer, and Jesus will be saved!

False alarms are going to be really embarrassing. So, mothers, no Triscuits or Wheat Thins in the purse for the kiddies. Just asking for trouble. Cheerios are probably okay.
In the comments section someone described how they actually stole two blessed crackers, gave one to a hungry hobo and burned the other one on a stake.

Host desecration at Wikipedia. Apparently Catholics have massacred entire villages of Jews suspected of mistreating the wafers.

...but look at the dates for those. Last time back in the 1600's.

There are two parties "guilty" in this account. First and foremost the guy who took the wafer. If he wanted to teach his friend about Catholicism, there are other ways to do it. Secondly, the few members of the Catholic Church who made the "taking the wafer hostage" comments. The few don't reflect the views and beliefs of the many. Although, this wouldn't be a news story if it weren't so outlandish (on both sides). One may not believe the sacredness of the wafer, but that doesn't make it alright to mock it.

I smuggled the Eurcharist out of an assembly once in elementary school, and had two teachers screaming at me and calling me a witch and stuff, in front of all the parents.
