Example: Darkey in a watermelon. “Upon opening the watermelon which is made of papier mache, is found a little pickaninany, southern darky with cloth diaper fasted with miniature safety pin and small nursing bottle. His white eyes flash the whole face indicated perfect happiness.” picked by bernardblack 3 months ago

« psycmoe : I see how you could argue that for #7. I don't see #8. Would you explain?
I mentioned #8 as not being overtly or arguably at all racist as I'm personally not sure it is.

This is a Mr.T sock monkey....

Sock monkeys are popular, should one not be made of a dark skinned person? In the case of sock monkeys, they depict monkeys as people not the other way round which I feel is a big difference

The t-shirt portraying Obama as Curious George did however have racist meaning IMO as it was portraying Obama as a monkey not the other way round as is the case with the sock monkeys. Also to some extent you have to look at intention. The guy selling the Curious George t-shirts was known locally as a racist and was know for being deliberately controversial whereas non of these things are know about the sellers of the Obama sock monkey.

Those are the reasons I felt that the Obama sock monkey wasn't straight up and down racist.

« ReBoot : Nope, I'm not. We're all able to downvote for a plethora of reasons (just check the FAQ) The object is to allow us to control content to help create a better site. When I downvote, it's nothing personal -- it's just my job. And yours, too, whenever you find something that just isn't up to par.

But look on the bright side. The post is currently sitting at 400+, so it's not like my vote had that much of an effect. Suck it up, dude.
No need to talk down to me, I know the rules.

I was just pointing out that automatically downvoting based on a format that displeases you seems a bit harsh. I agree that top ten lists can get a little irritating, but they need to be taken on a case-by-case basis, not across the board rejection. If they're crap (as they often are), let 'em have it, but If you find one that has merit, give it a break.

All of this in my opinion, naturally. I'm not trying to accuse you of voting against the rules, but rather trying to strike up a discussion on voting practices. If your opinion is top ten automatically equals crap, go for it, but I think that's a bit of a rush to judgment.

A few years ago, we (In the Netherlands) had a candy called a Negerzoen, which means "n*i*g*gerkiss".

That name got changed ofcourse.
Finland also had neekerinsuukko (negerkyss in swedish), meaning the same thing. It was a chocolate covered thing with creamy marshmellow crap inside. I grew up munching those.

The name was changed in 2001 to just "kiss". The packaging was altered slightly.

According to Wikipedia, they're also known as Negerinnentet (negress titties) in Flanders.
