"Christianity uses recycled mythology shocker!"

Not the first, not the last.

Example: Jesus' similarities to Mithra

Of course, any Christian I've ever come across that's been posed with the evidence such as the Jewish Tablets still claims a victory for Christianity because it shows how Jesus' coming was prophesied.

Why can't you leave Christianity alone instead of enthusiastically trying to disprove it?

Why can't you encourage religious debate instead of the opposite?

I don't really understand this story.

The Torah has always prophecied the resurrection.

1 Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.
2 After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.

Hosea 6:1-2

I thought the disagreement was whether Jesus was the one prophecied.

Thank you! I always kind of stand back from these things - it amazes me how much of mythology has been lost and dismissed, especially in current times. So many stories from around the world bear striking reslemblance to each other. Creation myths is just the tip of the iceberg. It's a wonderful thing ot learn and know about - despite or especially because of one's religion.

I think this comment touches on Bandit's question of why do I "pick on" Christianity all the time.

I, personally, do it because I think there's a LOT of meaning lost by taking mythology literally.

Imagine if "The hare and the tortoise" was taken literally? People would spend years quoting things the hare said and analysing exactly how the turtle moved, when really, it's just allegory to bring our consciousness to a higher level.

Because Christianity is so disappointing.
2000 years and this is the best the western culture could dream up.

Same here... I remember being taught this in Sunday school.

It depends who you're talking to.

Most of the debaters (here on Plime) are those who claim they don't believe in anything except Science.

My beef is with those who are offensive in their "debate."

If you want to be an atheist, go right ahead. I'm not going to call you stupid. I'd expect you to at least respect my beliefs and not mock me for them.

Indeed it was. The entire Old Testament points to the coming of the Messiah. We didn't need the tablet to know that.

"Offensive" is a very relative thing. What I think is offensive versus what you think is offensive will yield very different results. I don't think questioning all belief is offensive. You've been told your whole life that certain beliefs shouldn't be question because they are "sacred". This led to you believing the same. I don't think any belief should be left unquestioned. When beliefs and ideas are left unquestioned, nobody's mind is changed concerning that belief, and nobody learns. That's a major problem.

What? I wasn't assuming that I knew anything about you. You said:

That implies that you would rather not have your beliefs questioned, does it not?

Actually, we *do* know some stuff about you.

You post your opinion in Plime and as such we can glimpse windows into who you are.

Admittedly, it may only be a small part, or a generalisation of who you are, but we do get a sense of it.

You also said, "My beef is with those who are offensive in their debate." Is that just 'in general'? Or did I/someone say something offensive in this conversation?

You used the word "you" twice.

This implies you think know something about me does it not?

You know nothing about me or my life up to this point.

My faith is a matter of personal experience of what my God can do. I would share it with you, but I've been mocked enough for one day.

I know that about you because you yourself said that it was true.
