Are they aware of the cultural implications of their name? I immediately thought of Billie Holliday's frightening yet true song of the same title...

It's about how the trees and poles in the South bear "strange fruit", meaning corpses hanging from them... What fruit has LA borne since its racial strife of the 90's, and even more recent events?

Evidently they are not aware of that. There is a tree in Australia called Strange Fruit, where the fruit moves up along the trunk of the tree to the top as it grows and ripens. That is what inspired their name.
