Auction On to Kill Rare Scottish White Deer
Auction On to Kill Rare Scottish White Deer
"It needs culling – it’s a freak."

*edit: Hoax alert! After this post went up the daughter of the property owner mentioned in this story joined Plime to give us a very different view. It appears the original journalist went far beyond the truth in his search for publicity and may have endangered Kevin Stuart, who claims that there never was an auction for the life of the animal. Please read the comments. picked by cb__ 9 months ago

I was trying to figure out why I was so disgusted too. Is it the delight and eagerness some are expressing over killing something rare? Is it the premeditation of one animals demise? Is it because they have named it now and it has become no longer "just a deer" All of the above. I've never understood hunting, this just makes it all the more pathetic to me.

I'm appalled and disgusted that people can be so stupid as to equate 'different' with 'bad'. I hope the attention/publicity somehow helps to prevent this..a kidnapping, secret "relocation", maybe an outbidding by preservationists or an animal sanctuary. There are bigger problems in the world for sure, but the mentality of these people is really disturbing.

all hunting for fun sucks.
but these seems to be tied in to crops as well 'With the overall deer population now at historically high levels, concerns have been raised over how to manage their numbers in order to minimise damage to crops and trees.'

In my opinion, he's mugging to the press about all the offers he's going to get to kill it, to infuriate animal rights groups, and drive up the offers to save the animal.

Ummm, I'm confused now. Here is a link that has a completely opposite opinion of the deer coming from Stuart:

Rare and beautiful

As Kevin Stuart's daughter, I can confirm that the Daily Mail's version is the correct one. The original article in The Times was sensationalized to sell more papers. There is no auction, never has been nor ever will be. A scandal sells better that a "cute deer sighted" story.

Sensationalized seems a gross understatement, since the Times article says the exact opposite. How can they legally get away with that?

Thank you so much for coming here and clearing this up. I believe you and I believe the Daily Mail (can't believe I said that) but considering your family runs a B&B and your father is a photographer, I'm sure the Roe is more valuable (and not in the monetary sense) alive and safe. I hope no one is able to secretly come on the estate and cause Pearl's demise. I wish you all Godspeed, thank you again!

How wonderful that you are out spreading your truth to counter the publicity hoax, and how absolutely horrible that you have to!

I'm so glad I came back to read comments on this story and found an alternate side to the picture. I still worry for the deer as the publicity may make poachers get bold, but I am so truly relieved to hear that the land owner is not auctioning off the life of a living being. Thanks Faith

It's infuriating. I've been chasing this story all over the internet putting it straight!
I heard the actual interview for the Times. The reporter asked "If I were to offer you a 4 figure sum for it would you take it?"
Kevin's reply: "anyone would be mad not to in today's climate" but he also said "but I would prefer it were shot with a camera not a rifle"
That's how Daniel Foggo, professional reporter, got his so called "auction". By asking the 1st "bid"!!!

We have been contacted by the Times and a fellow reporter who shall remain nameless is trying to organise a retraction as it is not the first time that his collegue has run a story that's so far from the truth.
Animal rights were only able comment because the reporter called them, told them this story and asked for their reactions. Other than what he told them, they wouldn't even know my dad exists! Now our whole family are in danger of backlash from extreme animal rights activists.
I'd love to release Daniel Foggo onto the estate and take bids on hunting that lying scumbag down!

Oh, and there is talk about taking The Times to court. Also would have to be The Scottish Sun, Scottish Daily Star and the Telegraph who all copied the story and ran it the next day. Not one of these tried to contact us for confirmation or anything. That is illegal. Each one was almost word-for-word. That's not just wrong, that's downright LAZY!

Faith, I think your frustrating story makes a better story than the original one. If you could emphasize the threat your family is now under and get a newspaper to pick up that story we would sure help spread the word here at plime, as would many social networking sites - we all love to use the power of "the people" to put liars, cheats and thieves in their place. Let us know if we can help you.

Thanks very much.
Having read so many "Hunt down and shoot Kevin Stuart" comments lately, its nice to have some positives. I don't blame anyone for their "Kill Kevin" comments, I mean, I'd be thinking the same if I didn't know the truth. It's just something awful to hear though, knowing its aimed at your real family, not some random bloke from a paper. Now I know why so many people sue papers instead of letting it go.

A guy who does channel 4 documentaries rang tonight asking if we'd consider meeting him for a possible documentary about the deer and false accusations, and Kev should be on BBC radio 1 soon. So at least the media are believing us and helping get the truth out there. We just hope that the general public will listen. Scandal is always easier to believe.
