« Moe : Ugh I hate these problems that should NEVER EVER be happening for any good reason.

That's the truth of it with IDE - there is often no good reason.

My experience has always been that it's best not to put two types of the same device type on the same IDE channel.

There is no reason for this. It just works like that.

So if you have two hard drives and two DVD drives, set them so you have one of each on each IDE channel.

Also, do the drives have a cable select option with the jumpers?

Try that.

If it doesn't work, are the drives present in Device Manager?

Also, and I've hidden this because I'm sure you've done it, make sure that the IDE connector hasn't come loose - it does happen.

Aside from that, no matter how many times I go into MSconfig and stop it, any time you update explorer or media player or your MS mouse driver, it slithers right back in there.

So what you are saying is:

Doc: Don't do that

CCleaner helps to stop things like that happening. (don't download it if you are scared of breaking things).

Err BTW yano when you press ctrl and + the fonts get all big and stuff. Has it always done that? is it a firefox thing? vista thing?

Scared? I was arranging my device drivers to load into the UMA in perfect order, giving me as much of the precious 640K as possible while you were probably out on a date or something, LOL! Seriously, I haven't tried CCLeaner, but I will. I have recently switched to a MacBook, but I still have a Windows desktop and laptop in the house.

The ctrl + thing ISN'T a Vista thing. It's a firefox thing for sure. Other programs may have it too. If you use Mouse Gestures for Firefox, you can do the same thing by clicking and dragging upper left to lower right or lower right to upper left.

Sorry wasn't being facetious (love that word btw as it's the only one in the english language that has all the vowels in alphabetical order). Just sometimes I suggest things to people who go off and delete their registry and blame me for it.

Only one?

Have you been drinking? If so, I'd suggest you try remaining abstemious.

Oh, by the way, was it windy, or to put it another way, anemious, where you were today?

(C'mon - this is the geek thread. Just because I'm a tech geek doesn't mean I can't be a language geek too. There's more, btw, if you want them).

Also, I need help with buying a new computer tower as my old one is a default acer. I'm thinking this one: because it has a better power unit that comes free. I want to know if my motherboard will fit. Are these things usually standard?

Should be fine - it takes ATX, which is the standard form factor* for motherboards.

If you want to be absolutely sure, measure the old one - see if it's 12" by 10.5".
