Personally I prefer FPS games on the PC as well as roleplaying/mmo type games like Never Winter Nights or WoW. So I have a nice system that can run games like Bioshock on medium to high settings.

I really wasn't able to decide on which console was best so I own a Wii/360/PS3...

One of the reasons...

You could say the same about PCs. Crysis, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and it's sequel spring to mind.
I know you can say the same for PC's, but once again it boils down to preference. ReBoot has to figure out what he's looking for in a system and pick accordingly. There's no one right or wrong answer, that was kinda my point.

would this work? I'm not up on everything, but the integrated graphics, seems to be relatively high in quality.
I'm not too familiar with AMD but that seems like a more recent CPU. You should be able to find a decent mobo to fit your CPU, just make sure you have the right socket.

Well, yeah, I'm not disagreeing with you there - but a bit of discussion may well help - different perspectives; point and counterpoint.

I believe this is the socket for your CPU

It's basically how the CPU connects to the mobo.

I hope this doesn't come across as patronising, because it is meant as genuine advice, but it might be wise to consider a motherboard/processor bundle.

I've built plenty of PCs from scratch and would go for a bundle myself.

If nothing more than for not having to muck about with thermal paste.

Don't worry about patronizing, I have more experience with laptops and no experience with PCs. my last PC was a Tandy 1000 and I remember my dad paying $1000 for extra RAM. It was probably only about 100 kb or something like that.

I really want to salvage the processor because I've only had it for 9 months and its not too shabby.

OK, well what Cheeselog said about making sure it's the right socket, and don't forget the thermal paste.

Things go horribly but mercifully rapidly wrong without that.

Ok, so for the paste, do I use the stick

or the bottle?

Either's good.

I use anchovy paste

Once you've had the computer on for about 5-10 minutes you'll realise there's nothing, absolutely nothing like the smell of hot mashed anchovies.

« 86Apex : Depends on what you're looking for in a video game system. Do you like quick, easy pick-up and play games or pretty graphics?
Actually, I might get both. I want the PS3 for myself (more games, better titles, backwards compatibility, and yes, better graphics), but I'm considering buying a Wii for my autistic son (eye-hand coordination, collaboration, experience-sharing, etc.).

Anyway, thanks for the advice. :)

That sounds like a winning idea. The Wii is also good because the games tend to be shorter and less involved, and most that I have seen include a number of "mini games" which are great for children, given their short attention span.

Yeah, if you've got the money to get both then definitely go for it. I know you'll have lots of fun playing with your son, it's a good way to enjoy time together. Let us know what you think once you get either a Wii or PS3. :)

Nothing except the sound of hot anchovy covered cpu shooting through the side of your pc and embedding itself in your leg/ the wall/ your family pet.
