« doggylives : This guy has to head the list of most embarrassing names.
I once had to deal briefly with a man named Diks**t.

It's not an uncommon Indian name. It's Sanskrit in origin and means "Priest performing initiations." Sheila Diks**t is the Chief Minister of Delhi.

True story. Mr Diks**t was calling the place where I worked to pay his bill. He gave his card details and then explained that due to an error, the name on the card was misspelt. Of course it was. Some guy down at the credit card company thought to himself "There's no way his name can be spelt d-i-k-s-h-i-t." and corrected it.

To d**ks**t.

I'm watching a really big storm that's about to pass over me.

And if you're at Disney, duck. There is a tornado near by.

Wow, your internet connection is strong.

You had better be posting on Plime from the safety of a basement or an interior room with no windows.

I've never been so exhausted as I was this afternoon.

After trekking through horrid burn full of FLB's and boulders and alder swamp that was swampy or bouldery for kilometre after kilometre, I had a hard time convincing myself to keep on keepin' on. It was like the hardest resistance training I've ever had, and my quads/hamstrings just ache, even now.

This isn't to mention the fact that I'd been traversing all morning and had a full, heavy pack with rocks and gear (so about 70lbs).

It was a challenge for me to even get up and climb into the heli at the end of the day. I've never " broken," but today I sure was.

I've got some pretty sweet scratches and cuts on my arms and hands and face from walking through the dead, sharp trees, though. At least I look hardcore, even if I'm done.

Regardless, a day mapping in s**tty terrain with no outcrop beats a day in the office, hands down :)

Two days ago it was sweltering in the Northeast. Unusual for upstate NY but especially so in early June.

When I got up that morning it was 81 and about 75% humidity. I put the cat food out and opened the sliding doors to call in the ones too heat lazy to respond to their hunger pangs.

At that moment I saw a hummingbird flitting around the deck area. There are no flowers on the deck, just a few very lazy cats and some deck furniture. The hummingbird went from chair to umbrella to cat back to chair to bench to me. It hovered no more than 1.5' from my face, eye to eye with me.

I've never been intimidated by a bird, no less a hummingbird but it just hovered there, staring directly in my face for a good 15 seconds. I thought about slamming the door, I wondered if it would dart forward and poke my eye. It seemed to have a look on it's face that demanded "get some flowers out here".

I'll be buying a hummingbird feeder soon.

Hummingbirds have a well organized mafia. It is not wise to disobey them.

It was 107° here yesterday, but only 8% humidity. I have at least 2 hummingbirds who fight over my feeder. It is pretty funny watching them do battle let me tell you. Funny, but fast.
