So, I'm looking for a job and posted my resume onto job search sites like Monster.com and I've gotten a few hits. The only problem with that is when I would type in the name of the employer, the top 20 links listed talked about how they were a scam.

I'm really at a loss about who is a real opportunity and who isn't. Is there anything I should be looking for to take these people seriously?

IMO Monster.com and the ilk are scams. Stick to what works.

You mean, going to places in person with a resume? I've tried that, but every single one of them says I need to fill out their application online, which takes forever. I'm not saying I don't do it, but I would rather just copy and paste my resume. It has all the information.

The reason why I chose Monster.com is because my friend who graduate from GATECH posted his there and thats how he moved from GA to Mississippi. Thats why I thought it was legit.

However, if its not, I will remove my resume and do what you said.

I have recieved 3 phone calls from "perspective employers" and about 4 emails asking for me to come into an interview.

There was one scheduled today at 10am, but after talking to my Mother and her researching the company, we've decided it was a scam and it wasn't worth my time.

I have noticed one thing in common with all these employers. They are all some sort of insurance company. Should that worry me? Well, one of them was a bank, but still.

Well what I mean is that it is a scam because it allows all those scam "employers" to get people's personal info in order to try to...scam them.

If they seriously got rid of those leeches, I would view them in a more positive light. But hey, if you get some legit leads from them, go for it. Good luck on the search! 8O)

This whole thing is giving me a headache. I think I will withdraw my resume. /sigh Thank you for helping me out though /hugs

It's a screening process--if people aren't willing to take the time to fill out the company application, it says an awful lot about them. Simple truth.

USAJobs.com is a reliable business, with a better screening process than Monsters.com. I also know a lot of people who have good luck with jobs posted to Craig's List.
