Back when I was a novice DJ, wide eyed with innocence and not really understanding how all the banks and banks of humming machinery worked I had an awkward sort of a moment.
It was about my 2nd or 3rd show and I had someone in the studio with me, more for company than any active contribution. I'd done a link and pressed the queuing button to make the next track play. The light went out but nothing more than that happened. Silence. I pushed it again and the queue light turned back on. Another push and it went off again. But no noise. I pressed the button repeatedly. I pressed it really hard. I pressed it gently. Nothing.
Dismayed, I turned to m'buddy Ben and said "f**king f**k, the f**ker's not f**king working. f**k!"
It was in that tiniest of moments, that fraction of a degree between the c and the k of that last f**k that I realised the reason I couldn't hear anything was because the monitor speakers were off. The reason why the monitor speakers were off was that I had left the microphone slider up.
If anything's gonna make you say "f**k" it would be that.
If I absolutely have to say it, I try to say funk (especially with the kids around). "What the Funk?" isn't so bad..."Funker" is a little weird. "Funk You" is just a farce. Straight out "Funk!" and "Funk IT!" is like the Splenda of cussing semi-satisfying but leaves you wanting the real thing.
Lately I've taken to the "Life according to Jim" saying "What the crap?"

That's just going to cause confusion. Your kids are going to grow up wondering why Daddy is so angry with George Clinton.
