Offensive & Politically Incorrect Advertising & Propaganda Posted: 8 months ago by Doggylives
Glaring racism, violence, murder, misogyny and a lot of smoke.

You just don't see advertising like this that much these days.

I guess it's hard to make a solid claim to this being sexist, but no girl I know would go crazy about me for blowing smoke in her face. Even if the smoke is, for these cigarettes, cherry, burgundy or blueberry scented.
I've been told that at one time in London you were supposed to blow smoke in the face of a girl to show you fancied her.

Looks like that's not quite true.

It's like going back to the 1940/50's but with roles reversed. I've got to admit, I hate that advert. I'm thinking that, as usual, balance is being lost and the age-old trait of humans addressing imbalance by overbalancing in the opposite direction is happening.

It is one of my pet peeves - the current (and quite long lived) shorthand in advertising circles that men are stupid and lazy while women secretly run the world.

The defence of "lighten up, it's just a joke" seems hollow to me as it wouldn't work both ways.

At the risk of being accused of sexist myself by saying that electrical hardware is a male domain, if you had an advert for a drill saying "It's so easy even a woman can use it." then that ad would quickly be banned, no matter how many protestations of "it's a joke" were made.

Which is pretty much how you'd define a double standard.
