A woman's quest to erase a past that won't die Posted: 7 months ago by dollyllama
She keeps her reasons in a silver briefcase, where court documents from nearly 10 years ago detail a dispute between Catherine and her mother, who revealed during the case that her daughter was born male. That cemented a place for Daniel's name in public records.

She will do whatever it takes to get rid of him.
Except, apparently, get a new driver's license so getting pulled over won't bring Daniel up again.

She won't wear a seat belt as a matter of principle? That it represents society holding her back?

Ok, I think everyone here should know already that I stand firmly on the pro-trans side of the fence, but please. This article tried to pull the "noble poor" BS. Living in a trailer does not make her a heroic figure, this is not a literary conceit.

No offense, but ignoring court ordered community service, failing to appear, and failing to pay citations do not make you a crusader for transgender rights. It makes you the same as Bubba, Ellie Mae and Jim Bob over there who got picked up for drunk and disorderly.

Should she have her old name stricken from the records, of course. Should this glorify the poor uneducated trailer lifestyle? No. This isn't Grapes of Wrath.

I think the driver's license lists Catherine. It would have to, for a legal name change. However, her 'permanent' record, so to speak, will also list any other names ever used...Just as I have my maiden name, my first husbands name, and my current legal name listed.

She's sounds more than a little crazy. Maybe it's justified, I don't know, but the fact is, the courts didn't make this into a big deal, she did. If I ever get pulled over, the cop could write all three names on the ticket, and should I flip out about them 'reminding me' that I was married to someone else, no one would give a damn or think I had any justification.

You are who YOU think, feel, and believe you are. Far as I'm concerned, if you need validation from others, at least let those others be your close friends and family. Who the hell cares what a random stranger says?!?
