I do know that by the age of 5 or 6, in my corduroy overalls, racing around in Keds, I had begun to be apprehensive about what lay in wait for me. I felt that events had not conspired in my favor, for many reasons, including the fact that in my family there were too many children and too little attention to go around.

What a poignant commentary on depression. It can be hard to articulate the annihilating experience of senses going to null, especially when it's in force.
