I wonder whether they had the obese people or the non-obese people in mind when they decided to do this...

I think that this is great... Now if this was done in planes... Only by public display will you make people aware of the issues...
"It may be that they don't want to think of themselves as fat or they resent being put in with pensioners and the disabled," said one manager.
Tis their own fault... next time, don't get to that point...

Leave it to Brazil... the world capital of vanity, hedonism and body consciousness to come up with seats for the obese.
Hey Brazil...How 'bout figuring out how to feed your starving impoverished people living in slums?

Don't forget Brazil also hosts a lot of beautiful topless beaches and it is the most dangerous country is the world...

They would, if the obesity wasn't an issue... there would be plenty of food to go around...

There are a lot of people out there that are aware that they are fat, why they are fat and how they are fat, yet they choose to do nothing. Brazil is not an uneducated country, neither is the US or Europe for that matter... I have known people who just adore food like it is a drug addiction...
On a side note:
I remember when I was younger, watching on TV a Campaign that brought awareness of the younger generation being disrespectful to the older generation by means of verbal insults and physical abuse...
That campaign really did the job it was supposed to...

That campaign really did the job it was supposed to... Yes and while we're at it, we will surround all the fatties with glossy pictures of beautiful thin people, make chairs that they can't fit in, and make sure 80% of retailers don't have clothing that comes in their size.
Oh, wait a minute... It appears we have already done all of that in the US, and we are still an obese nation.. Could it be that shaming people just isn't working?

Sometimes different approaches are required. And while the education approach was tried, people are still obese... but they are educated...
They know people in Africa are starving. They know that the food industry, every so many years, increases the size of the food portions. They know that they need to be active to stay fit. They know what foods they should and should not eat.
And, in spite all the education and availability of information, they make a conscious decision to eat...
It comes down to the choice. And while ridicule may work for some and not others, the point is that it works...

It comes down to the choice. Wow. I guess you just dont realize that a lot of people who are obese don't make the decision to overeat consciously. Have you ever been obese yourself because your statements ring of ignorance. Yes, ultimately everything one does is matter of personal responsibility, but that doesnt mean that for fat people overeating is a simple yes or no decision. Nothing about being obese is simple. Lets take your analogy to a drug addiction; it's not LIKE a drug addiction, for a lot of people IT IS an addiction. In a lot of cases obesity is more severe and often much harder to overcome than a drug addiction. The heroin addict cant go through the drive thru and pick up a gram or two, they dont see constant adds trying to sell them some new and exciting drug concoction, the average heroin addict cant call their dealer and have it delivered in half an hour or less. As I said, I agree that ultimately an individual is responsible for their own actions, but to make it out to be as simple as getting up one day and deciding not to be fat is ignorant and insensitive.

INCORRECT... IT IS a yes or no decision. Next time you eat a Fuddrucker's Burger, take a look at it and then at yourself. If you finish it YOU MADE A CONSCIOUS DECISION TO OVER EAT. Because everyone knows that those burgers ARE TOO MUCH FOR ONE PERSON. Then look at the people around you in the place and count how many you see are there eating a burger, just like you and tell me if that was not a conscious decision.

UH!? Eating releases ENDORPHINS! which are the chemicals in your brain that make you feel good. SO YES! it is like a drug addiction and more so because it is more readily available than say, Heroin...
I can guarantee you this, if Heroin was that readily available, a lot of drug dealers would be out of a job.
As I said, I agree that ultimately an individual is responsible for their own actions, but to make it out to be as simple as getting up one day and deciding not to be fat is ignorant and insensitive.
As a matter of fact, it isn't... because I looked at myself in the mirror one morning while brushing my teeth and I didn't like what I saw and I MADE A CONSCIOUS DECISION TO NOT BE FAT!
How do you reach your goal, Kero? Tell us... Like Gammerus said above, education. I found out how many calories I should be eating a day for my height and DECIDED CONSCIOUSLY to make sure those calories consisted of foods that are healthy... I exercise...
And now I look at myself and I am much happier with what I see...
