Corrective Rape Posted: 3 months ago by pocksucket
Two words that do not belong together. Their very juxtaposition in the headline should give you shudders. In South Africa the "cure" for lesbians is rape.

This is messed up... But I wonder what the other side of the coin would be...

Hypothetically, say it was a woman dominated society with a surplus of gay men...

Would women resort to this type of 'corrective' method to 'cure' male homosexuality themselves?

Would women employ burly men to 'correct' this homosexual tendency in other gay me?

Or

Would women just let it be?

Zimbabwe’s Robert Mugabe, the most homophobic of Africa’s presidents, dismisses gays as “lower than pigs and dogs.” Uganda’s Yoweri Museveni has threatened them with arrest, prosecution and deportation. And former Kenyan President Daniel arap Moi long characterized them as a “scourge.”
Both Roman Catholics

In Namibia, homosexuals have been blamed for severe drought by religious leaders, who insist their wicked behaviour displeases God. Government officials, who have threatened to deport gays, accuse them of trying to depopulate the country and describe their lifestyle as a kind of cancer, threatening to lead to “social disorder
I wonder what the view of homosexuality would be had Africa not been tainted by the missionaries?

I work with a LGBT NGO in South Africa. Living here is a very hardcore existence especially if you live in the townships and squatter camps. Homophobia is a huge issue here but only one of many issues that arised from our troubled past. Violence and crime in South Africa is a daily way of life and everyone is affected by it. I sometimes read the outrage that people from other countries have towards crime and realise how bad things have gotten here, that this and even worse violations did not make the mainstream news. I said it before... I wish that the mothership would come fetch me already, but after seeing District 9 even that seems like a bad idea... END WHINE

this anti rape thing is twisted and must be stopped. I do not like missionaries who convert with lies and financial lures ... but there is no denying the fact that they have saved lives and educated thousands in the 3rd world. And with education comes the power to know more and realize that lesbians - all gays are as normal as the next eccentric (or more so)

So if some guy with Aids rapes a virgin lesbian are they both cured?

Rape seems so magical in South Africa.

And brought their religious beliefs with them, specifically in this case the belief that homosexuality is a sin.

Is religion the only factor in the homophobia and attacks on gay people? No, there are economic factors too.

But the fact is that Africa is plagued by violence for various reasons therefore it's understandable that what would be normally latent and non-violent prejudice and bias in other countries turns to violence in countries where violence is more widespread and less punished.

And with education comes the power to know more and realize that lesbians - all gays are as normal as the next eccentric (or more so)
"Gays are as normal as the next eccentric"?

So homosexuality is an eccentricity? Mmmmkay

I got a 911 call yesterday in regards to a prisoner being released. They release them in their orange jumpsuits for some reason and they walk to, whereever.

Well, my frantic 911 call was from the aunt of the released prisoner. She was scared to death that he was let out and coming home as the people in his neighborhood were waiting for him ( they knew he was out and where he was already!) and said they were going to kill him.

She stated he was convicted for rape a few yrs ago. His orange jumpsuit was like a target!! The police went out to protect him.

Now "that" is a correction that is more appropriate! (I do realize that the article is much different than what I just typed. Strange how cultures can be so different).

you left out the "or more so". no homosexuality is an eccentricity. but eccentrics are different and are gay. Now if we reproduced asexually but still had men and women for some other reason; then heterosexual would be different ...

From
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eccentricity_%28behavior%29

"In popular usage, eccentricity refers to unusual or odd behavior on the part of an individual. "
I was using the unusual meaning

You don't think referring to someone who happens to be gay as eccentric or unusual is a bit, insulting?

well if it is am sorry. I love an Italian restaurant run by two gay men, who we exchange pleasantries with. But do not really have experience talking to them or about them (apparently) only read a bit ... FYI those two guys are family friends and the place is named after one of the Great Danes. a few years back they used to travel to the US and 2 of the Danes traveled with them. maybe that is why the i associated the word with being gay. ok stupid reason but just thought about that. anyway - to any gay person (or bisexual) reading this - sorry no insult meant.

The same as here in America, had you British dealt with your Quaker problem at home instead of shipping them out...

Granted it was a LAME attempt at killing them off, considering that they made it to the other shore and started wreaking havoc...

Doggy - I know a lot of gay folk and I have to say that most of them would fall into the category of eccentric. I don't think it's an insult.

there is no such thing as "corrective" rape.
Rape can never be justified in any circumstances.

It's the connection between the bible, religion and homophobia, the homophobia that fuels these rapes, that is being made here.

Look into Africa's historical position and attitude towards homosexuality before Christianity was introduced and embraced and you'll see the connection

1.7 Million women get raped in SA every year, and believe me religion has nothing to do with it.

They will find any excuse for their behaviour, and taking religion away will not stop the rapes.
