On September 16, 1919, The American Legion was granted their federal charter by Congress.
On September 15, 2009 - 90 years later - Congress proclaims 9/16 as "American Legion Day"

For those who have served in the US Military - if you're not already a member of the Legion, today is a good day to join.
For wives, daughters and granddaughters of those who served, please look into joining the Legion Auxiliary.
For sons and grandsons of those who served, please look into joining the Sons of the American Legion.
